I saw 2 movies there in the late 70’s Dracula was one and I don’t rememebr the other. I do rememebr both were shown in flat. I saw one film there after it was twined, Bobby Deerfield.
The only memory I have of this theater is when i was 18 and it was a porno theater and me being a dumb nieve teenage got pickpocketed by the guy sitting next to me.
I just called the theater and it is independantly owned and not by Sunrise cinema who was the previous owner. WHoever got it from the Frank theater chain I applaud you. Please update to independant owner.
Apparently Frank’s had to drop this from thier purchase. I will get more informatin when the theater opens after 1pm today. They are operating as Sunrise Gateway and an independant theater. This is great news. Frank theaters would have ruined it.
When Frank theaters purchased these theaters in 89 they ruined them. They took the beautiful Strand and carved it into 5 small theatewrs. The Morrlyn was great as a twin, but they made that a 4 plex.
When it was run by Stanley Warner it was very basic. There were no curtains, but they did have masking that operated manually from the side of the screen. The screen was in front of a large stage. Not sure when they used the stage. When SamEric took over they put curtains including along the side walls and the back.
I think whoever approved the sale of Kerasotes to AMC should be ashamed because AMC is slowly selling off the theaters that they purchased. Maybe we should do a write in campaign to whoever approves theser mergers. If anybody has any info please post it.
I missed there in Ashville. It was being shown in digital projection(35mm) at all three theaters that had it. I was in Europe and missed it to my disappoitment.

I misse di there in Ashville. It was being shown in digital projection at all three theaters that had it. I was in Euope and missed it to my disappoitment.
I just knew AMC would pull this crap. I hate this chain but not as much as I hate the Frank Theater chain who is the chain from hell. I was only in this theater once on a visit back to NYC and saw Jodi Foster in The Accused. I did always think the theater shuld have remained named the Tower East. MAybe Cinema City’s will take over sicne they operate the Paris and it is a single screen theater.
OMG Sinrise cinemas was a great independant chain for many years in Ft lauderdale. Now Frank theaters has taken them over. The are the low life of theater chains. This is really sad news.

I agree with Terry and Eric, bring back 70mm. I agree 3d is BS. I saw 2 3-D films last year and would not spend the money to see another one.
Thi is wonderful news.

I hope they are leaving hte original auditorium intact.

Another AMC theater that they will probibly close because it’s a single screen theater.

The showing I mentioned earlier were through Fathom events and they were charing $12.50.
Now if Raleigh and Durham NC could get new digital 70mm prints why couldn’t the famous Ziegfeld?

It conccerns me that they will clsoe the AMC Loews 72nd St in NYC becuase it is the only single screen house they operate there.
