The Augusta Chroncile celebrated 225 years of publishing. THE IMPERIAL THEATRE was was shown three times in the supplement.August 29 2010.Sunday.

The Miller would have been to the left just out of range. The Miller didn’t open until February 1940 – maybe this postcard was before that time because as beautiful as the theatre was/is the artist would have definitely captured its beauty. There is a great photo taken in 1950 of Broad Street that shows the Miller, Imperial, Rialto, and Modjeska. Unfortunately, the Dreamland burned in 1945. All great theatres and from 1931 until 1968 – all owned and managed by Augusta Amusements.
The Miller was across the street,but didn’t get in the picture. It would have been in the foreground.

I really would like to compile all the features here from the 60’s to closing in the 80’s,but i just don’t have that kind of time.I have seen some on CT that are impressive with the list of films,some i had forgotten about. One day I do want to list them.thanks.
What’s with all of these random references to the movies that played here? It’s great info, don’t get me wrong, but may I submit a suggestion: Please consider taking a cue from AlAlvarez, Michael Coate, neeb, Ron3853, and others, and compile a comprehensive and chronological list of the theater’s bookings history so readers can find this fascinating information in one place instead of needing to wade through literally hundreds of (often pointless) comments.
Clint Eastwood’s “DIRTY HARRY” and “HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER” open at the Imperial.
Disney’s “THE LOVE BUG” opens first Run here at the Imperial.
Might be listed SOMEWHERE up above.But “GONE WITH THE Wind” opens first run at the IMPERIAL Jan 31 1940.

Yeah,Tlsloews you are right I see way too many of the same things we were doing on other theatres,but I will respect their wishes cause I am a southern gentleman.I will not post any more items on my favorite Theatres Columbia 1 and 2,National Hills or the Imperial unless they are theatre related. Thanks again You and Nick are okay,Robin Too. Hope she reads these. I am sure she will respect their wishes too.

Been reading the National Hills posts seems there are a couple of wantabe Webmasters on that page,that do not like the stories or comments written by folks who actually worked there,that too bad it all has to do with the theatre.If a comment does not interest me I just pass it by and they should do the same and let the real Webmasters do their thing.
Go to Friends Of The Miller website to view a couple pictures from our last event, Classic Movie Night – “The Wizard of Oz”. Karl Slover, an original cast member from the 1939 movie joined us for the festivites. A fun time was had by all!

Augusta Amusements will re-screen the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” Saturday July 17th at Paul Simon Theater located in Ft. Discovery. I just think we found spots around the side of the theatre.A few times i used parking metters but it was about a dime for two hours,so it wasn’t going to break a theatre employee.
This is what I remember about the parking. There weren’t really any parking lots or garages on Broad Street. Well, there was the old Georgia Railroad Bank building…not sure what it’s called now, but I don’t tihnk people were able to park there. There was parking on the sides and in the middle of the street. There were parking lots on the streets behind Broad and people might have used them at one time. I worked there in the later years and it was not really safe to go walking around back there! LOL Keep in mind, this was before they fixed up the Riverwalk and everything.
