I should call myself “Broken Record”. Once again no Gatsby or Peeples here this week but moveovers of 3 from Fresh Meadows. 42, Big Wedding and Oblivion. Sad because “Iron Man” has all the box office, both 42 and Oblivion are still in the top 5 so we may seem hip. We also get another limited release “Mud”. The limited release pictures seem to stay 2 weeks , Company You Keep being the most recent example here.
I went a week and a half ago to “Oblivion” in the afternoon and paid $9. Today I went in the early afternoon to see “Pain & Gain” and the price had risen to $10.25 for a matinee. Nightime is now $12 plus the pre 11:55 am showings are now $7. The stubs card when you made $100 in rewards would give you $10. It wouldn’t even cover a matinee price now. $16 at night and $14.50 in the afternoon for a 3D showing too.
Went to the film “The Big Wedding” (terrible movie) at the grand reopening of theater today. $9 matinees, $12 at night. Theater was still putting new floor in and castle like images around movie posters for uupcoming films. Theater is wild, they have done a medieval motif or design if you wall. The walls have wallpaper like a stone castle wall and all the theaters are designed as if you’re entering a castle. The seats I presume are all new (can’t remember the old ones) all have cup holders and they’re cushioned. There are statues of Knights standing around and a dragon also. The bathrooms I kid not have toilet paper holders that are actually knight figurines holding the toilet paper for you. The faucets at the sinks are shaped like dragons. They also sell french fries at the concession stand and sell about 10 different sodas including Cherry Pepsi and Dr. Pepper. Sadly only 7 people at “The Big Wedding” 12:30 PM performance.
This week moveovers 18 & 19 from Fresh Meadows for this year come (Scary Movie 5 & Evil Dead) + our 3rd limited release Robert Redford’s “The Company You Keep”. No “Big Wedding” and “Pain & Gain” but wait they are actually selling tickets for Iron Man 3!! Shocking! I actually contacted the AMC corporate offices/guest services who say the theater because it is smaller is an AMC Independent which means and I quote “that it will receive a number of smaller-marketed films rather than large releases”. The theater has more seats now than Fresh Meadows.
It’s reopening on schedule. They have a lineup on Fandango. Friday they reopen with new films “The Big Wedding” and “Pain & Gain” and oldies “Evil Dead”, “Admission”, “Olympus Has Fallen”, “Spring Breakers” and “Oz, the Great and Powerful”.
When I went to “Disconnect” there Sunday I asked the ushers (3 were together, 1 of which I recognized) and they said what Fresh Meadows said was not true. They claimed Iron Man 3, Hangover 3 and Fast and the Furious 6 would be there but the theater would probably be renovated in August. My interpretation is yes those films may come there but only when they’re played out in Fresh Meadows and at the end of July AMC will close the theater for good unless someone else buys it. Though the schedules are not up yet for the weekend, the Thursday night schedule has Fresh Meadows getting both openers “Pain and Gain” and “The Big Wedding”. It looks like “The Croods” and “Scary Movie 5” being dropped since they have no showings after 6 pm. The 10 PM sneak previews are at 9 PM this time, at least for “The Big Wedding”. My guess both those pictures leaving there will come to Bay Terrace (The Croods would be returning). Maybe another limited release or Korean picture will come in also. Funny AMC sent me an e-mail on Monday asking what I thought of the Bay Terrace theater when I saw “Disconnect”. They occasionally send me these e-mails maybe every 3 months or so.
Went to Fresh Meadows today to see “Oblivion” and asked the manager would Bay Terrace ever be getting any first run films (wide releases) again. Yes we got “Disconnect” this week along with 2 more moveovers. The manager who is there 2 months and said he was a manager at Bay Terrace previously says the booker only want the new movies in Fresh Meadows since ithas been redone and the movies will only go to Bay Terrace once they are finished there.
Currently half the men’s bathroom is missing (something due to the landlord). All the urinals are missing and only 3 stalls are there, 1 has the seat missing.
Wow we now have 2 Korean movies this week with the addition of “Fists of Legend” tothe 4th week of “New World” Plus we get another moveover of Olympus Has Fallen. But wait we have a new film “Place Beyond the Pines” on 2 screens, why 2 screens. Of course neither “42” or “Scary Movie 5” comes here. Not one picture predicted to be in the top 6 this weekend is here. Did I mention they got rid of “The Croods” which made 20 million last weekend. Can’t have anything here that might make money.
Are we gonna close soon or get renovated? Although I didn’t want to see either film going wide this week the theater only gets 2 more moveovers from Fresh Meadows, “The Host” and “The Call”. We’re Cinemart 2.
Again all 3 films opening this week, Tyler Perry’s new one, G.I. Joe and the Host only open in the sister screen in Fresh Meadows. Of course 2 more Fresh Meadows films being kicked out move over, Burt Wonderstone and Jack the Giant Slayer.
It’s gone after 17 weeks, Silver Linings Playbook. Records breaking at Bay Terrace this upcoming weekend. 4 new films the second time this year, Korean film New World, The Croods, Admission and Spring Breakers. But there are also 2 moveovers from Fresh Meadows playing a few performances a day, Identity Thief & 21 and Over. That means there are 6 films new to Bay Terrace this week, wild for a 6 plex. Only Oz: The Great and Powerful remians. I remember when I lived in the Bronx near Parkchester the American had 5 openers 1 week (2 on a Wednesday and 3 on Friday). If I remember right nothing stayed longer than 2 weeks.
It is annoying when they don’t bring any new pictures in and considering they had 3 Monday for Oz which made 79 million on the weekend it seems more like a death wish for the theater.
I don’t know if that’s a record, it’s the longest I know of while I’ve lived here. The theater opened in 1994 and basically I’ve been going since 2002 but for a 6 plex that’s a long time.
Silver Linings Playbook makes it to 15 weeks the most I’ve seen here. Argo makes it to week 11 and Django Unchained is tossed over in it’s 10th week. We also get Side Effects in its 4th week, another moveover. Amazing to make way for the old stuff we get rid of both Save Haven after 2 weeks and Beautfiul Creatures, also after 2. We also get the Last Exorcism Part II.
After complaining a lot here last week about tyhe moveovers and duds coming in the theater brings in the Korean film plus 3 others, Escape from Planet Earth (which I predicted), Safe Haven and Beautiful Creatures. Got to go back for the last time 4 new films came in. Of course Silver Linings Playbook will be 13 weeks here, 1 short of the longest that I remember, Chicago. My Big Fat Greek Wedding played Fresh Meadows for 18 weeks.
Used to talk to one of their people all the time till he got a new job. He said they (Bay Terrace) were always treated as the forgotten stepchild when it came to movies; Fresh Meadows was the crown jewel. Fresh Meadows always had more showings per day on weekdays then Bay Terrace which may have their last shows say on Thursday commence at 8 pm and Fresh Meadows would have have theirs at say 10 pm. Also Fresh Meadows had more days peer week with their pre noon $6 specials.
Yes Tinseltoes but up till the redo of Fresh Meadows we usually got wide releases in the first week of release.

It’s okay.

So it’s finally coming, April 26 you say.

At the last moment Bay Terrace brings in Stoker with Nicole Kidman.
It is annoying when they don’t bring any new pictures in and considering they had 3 Monday for Oz which made 79 million on the weekend it seems more like a death wish for the theater.
Now 17 weeks for Silver Linings Playbook and another week of just a move over from Fresh Meadows.
I don’t know if that’s a record, it’s the longest I know of while I’ve lived here. The theater opened in 1994 and basically I’ve been going since 2002 but for a 6 plex that’s a long time.
16 weeks for Silver Linings Playbook here.

I don’t get stressed; just annoyed.
That should read that Silver Linings Playbook will be in it’s 12th week here this weekend.
