That’s exactly what happened. Theatre was under construction when Edwards bit the dust. The Howard Hughes Promenade opened up with this big massive shell of an empty theatre in the early part of Summer 2001. A short time later, NA bought it and named it The Bridge Cinema deLux and the crowds came in DROVES!
Yeah…the lasers are FANTASTIC! Never seen clarity, sharpness & colors popping like that before. Laser will be the norm in 2-3 years. And rightfully so.
This theatre is reopened and renamed AMC Marina Marketplace 6. It reopened on 10/10 and is still 6 screens. The auditorium sizes are from 217 to 89. The seats are all leather rockers (non-reclining) and the concessions are mid-range (Mozzarella Sticks & Chicken Tenders along with the popcorn).
I’m inside the largest auditorium as I type this. Pretty nice!
They need to do it in the adjacent building next door (the one where all the auditoriums are on the lower level). The big house in there is an easy fit for an IMAX conversion.
I am sitting inside the XD auditorium as I type this. In a nutshell, it’s the same IMAX screen with updated decor. Better seats, snazzier side paneling, in line with Cinemark’s color scheme. They’re running Barco’s Aura 11.1 sound. I’ll report on how it sounds when the movie’s done. So far, pretty good.
Great movie theatre. Recently had Luxury Lounger recliner seats installed. XD room is decent and screens were nicely sized.
Non-descript standard issue AMC. No pizazz or personality.
Futureworld was released in 1976 – so the photo has to be from that year, not 4 years earlier
Thx 4 the tip on Lawrence. Seeing it in The Dome is one of my bucket list items. Glad to cross it off.

Very nice theatre. May start going here instead of the AMC’s in Marina Del Rey. XD room is KILLER!
Picture obviously stolen from CinemaTour. Lame.
They don’t need a replacement with Regal LA Live (and, soon, Alamo Drafthouse) 5-10 minutes away.
Just drove by and saw the rebuild. I couldn’t help but smirk.
The grain in Inherent Vice was intentional to match the 1970 setting of the film. Sound wasn’t bad to me.
Very good!
I deleted many of my (argumentative) comments since they added no merit to the actual theatre pages. I’m much too old for pissing contests.
Blog was always a good space to get the latest heads-up on theatres across the nation. Hate to see it go.

Joe: The 2 upstairs screening rooms are 63 seats according to the article.
Wow. The room where I saw Jedi, Superman II, and Die Hard in 70MM is now only 270 seats. Just…wow!
Take tons of pics & post ‘em when they reopen! God only knows when I’ll get back home to see the redo for myself!

Looks like they’re building apartments or offices on the lot where this theatre once was.
Dolby Atmos is now running in this theatre – alongside THX. And BOY OH BOY does it rumble in there. FANTASTIC sound!
Wow…that is ONE GNARLY SOUND SYSTEM! Very impressed with this XD room! Surely all the XD’s aren’t this good!

I live in LA – so no I haven’t driven by there! Wow…one of the last links to my childhood in St L is gone now, I guess.
Theatre is currently closed for renovations.
Sigh…
Goofy rename (no offense, Scott!).
