After reading the May 7, 2009 post about the Fox I do hope that the residents of Tucson and the surrounding areas continue to support this theatre as they are lucky to have this restored theatre in their downtown area after many years of it being closed. It’s a true AZ cinema gem and needs to be respected, not neglected ever again! As I recall the City of Phoenix lost their Fox, but Tucson did the right thing by restoring and preserving their Fox!
I recently met a couple from Tucson and they told me about the Fox Theatre in their city. Thank goodness it was saved from the wrecking ball and was restored and reopened after many years plus it is on the National Registry of Historic Places. I applaud the City of Tucson for saving this Fox as they did the Fox in Atlanta. Also nice to read that the ticket kios is being used as a will-call booth and that it wasn’t removed as is the case more often than not.
After viewing photos, I see that it was a very large and impressive art deco/moderne movie palace! Such a shame to lose this one to many years of…….neglect!
Mark from Davidson: Suppose you are aware pf the theatre plans for Davidson though I wish it were going to be a single screen rather than 4 screen..more like a “restaurant that shows movies” type of venue. Did you know that Davidson had a movie theatre years ago where the old gas station used to stand?
The Davidson News article was interesting to read with photos. Though I wish the theatre would be a single screen venue, I’m thrilled that the college town will once again have a movie theatre. The Gem in nearby Kannapolis is special with its classic neon marquee and original single screen format.
I’m very familiar with Davidson NC, home of Davidson College. Yes, the town used to have a cinema and it’s great to read that the town will once again have a cinema, but I wish it were going to be a single screen theatre in the style of days gone by rather than a 4 screen with table seating. If anyone has information about the theatre that used to be in Davidson, please post.
Interesting to see that a May Theatre is listed in Mayville WS as there was a May Theatre in Mayville NY, too though at this writing the one in NY is not listed on CT.
There are many comments on the Watsontown Cinema Treasures link about the closing of this theatre in a time when many other theatres in many other communities are moving forward with renovations, etc. I sincerely hope that someone steps up and purchases this theatre as it truly is a cinema gem for the community of Watsontown PA.
Also read that there are only about 300 single screen theatres left in the country. I would like to think there are more than 300 left as so many are listed on CT as either open or closed and not demolished.
What a charming little theatre! Is it about to close? Sure hope not though a down economy and the “outside of town” multiplexes do not help matters! Such a shame as the multiplexes have NO CHARM!
I sure would have enjoyed opening night at the Eberson Carpenter. I know some folks who were in nearby Williamsburg that weekend, but I wasn’t able to tell them about the opening and they might have enjoyed it during their visit to that area.
Since this theater is listed as a playhouse I wonder if films are shown on its stage? And thanks to George Stinson for saving this theatre from that wrecking ball.
Interesting to read about the signature wall of fame. Was it saved during demolition?

Another theatre torn down for more parking? Stop the madness!

Inexcusable and shameful!

“Seems like a restaurant that shows movies rather than a movie theater.”
I agree and so wish the people involved in this theatre decide in the end to make it a movie theatre, only.

Interesting photo with the black night sky, the brightly lighted new marquee and the boarded up door…next door somewhere in Texas!
Correction….Mayville WI

This theatre with the 4 screens was quite unusual. Loved the night photo with the lighted glass and stars above in a Texas sky.

Ok and thanks for the correction as so many PA towns end in “ville”, but not this one!
Where is Watsonville located in the State of PA as I might be able to see this theatre if it is within a comfortable driving distance?

I would love to see some interior photos of this theatre…been in contact with a Georgetown resident who may be of help to me.
Do hope to still see photos.
