No, let’s not. I saw “Groove Tube” on a double bill with “Flesh Gordon”, first at the Crossbay I in June 1975, then again at St. Mark’s Cinema (unfortunately cut) in January 1976. Fun stuff.
“Brown 25 : New things come out of Uranus every day !”
Like “Ball Street” and “My Bare Lady” and “Under Five Fags”(instead of flags).I have also been told of an X-rated Pinocchio. It’s not his nose that gets longer !
How sad. How did it happen ? I would expect that of the Cross Bay 1 (the older theater) but the Crossbay 2 was in mint condition when I was last there in early May 1995.
I think it’s more than trivial, to us movie buffs who hail from Ridgewood. Time to get out the map, dividers, and a current newspaper listing of active theaters. I estimate the current functioning Brooklyn or Queens cinema closest to the Ridgewood is either in downtown Brooklyn or Forest Hills, Queens, now that the Elmwood is gone.
I, too, hope it stays open indefinitely into the future. Bway and lostmemory and I, among hopefully many others, are only all too aware of how many movie theaters there used to be in the neighborhoods of Bushwick, Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth, and Middle Village, all within walking distance (4 miles or less) of the Ridgewood Theater, THAT ARE NO LONGER THERE !!!! How many miles is it from the Ridgewood to the nearest still-functioning movie theater in either Brooklyn or Queens ???
I think your theater book is mistaken. I have seen this “1980 closing” error elsewhere. Posted above on this page (or at least it should be) is the closing of the RKO Madison a few days after its Halloween 1977 movie show. I myself remember that the RKO Madison was definitely closed the last Saturday of February 1978. I also remember that, at that time, it had a prominent sign on it reading :
THIS IS HOW YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD STARTS TO DECAY. IF THIS BOTHERS YOU, CALL : (phone number)
In late February 1978 the RKO Madison was an ugly, empty, unused hulk, inviting squatting by the homeless, vandalism, and being a “shooting gallery” for junkies. By early April 1979, the inside had burned, making it more derelict.
Five channels instead of four ? “Tommy” would have benefited from that ! The expression “quadrophonic sound” in regard to The Who has always interested me, because of their 1974 album entitled “Quadrophenia”, which was not, however, to the best of my knowledge, in quadrophonic sound.
I saw and heard “Tommy” at the Ziegfeld in Manhattan, NYC, in March 1975, and it sounded great. I think the sound there was quad. I know it was quad sound there for “Ladies And Gentlemen The Rolling Stones” in late April 1974.
Greenpoint has always been, and still is, a heavily Polish Brooklyn neighborhood. The eagle atop the Chopin / American could have been an American eagle, or it could have been a Polish symbol, as in the “White Eagle” Polish food markets throughout NYC.
I have them all on my Cinema Tour listing. Also another Nassau Theater at 88 Nassau Avenue. Greenpoint zip code 11222 is adjacent to Williamsburg 11211. I have roots in both neighborhoods, as well as in Bushwick and Ridgewood.
EdWood, do you like to dress in women’s clothing ?
Hello mike hoyts ! Who are you ? Where do you know me from ?
Yumpin' Yiminy, Yohnny Yohnson, schtep on in, und ve vill show you how we hov cholly good fun in Ritch Woot ! Ja wohl !
My parents saw “I Am Curious-Yellow” in spring 1970, I think at the Arion in Middle Village.
RobertR, did you ever play the Robert Frank movie about the Rolling Stones' 1972 US Tour, “Cckscker Blues”, at any NYC cinema ?
No, let’s not. I saw “Groove Tube” on a double bill with “Flesh Gordon”, first at the Crossbay I in June 1975, then again at St. Mark’s Cinema (unfortunately cut) in January 1976. Fun stuff.

I remember the Wagner having porno, “Devil’s Bed” and “Let’s Play Doctor”, in 1968.
How sad. How did it happen ? I would expect that of the Cross Bay 1 (the older theater) but the Crossbay 2 was in mint condition when I was last there in early May 1995.
RobertR, thanks for the news about the new “Atlas Terminals” cinema on Cooper Avenue in Glendale.
What about the plans for a multiplex at the southeast corner of Metropolitan Avenue and Woodhaven Blvd., at the southeast corner of Forest Hills ?

Let’s divert ten billion gigawatts from the third rail of the Bway el into our flux capacitor to accomplish this !
IN THE IMMORTAL WORDS OF THE “ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW” :
“LET’S DO THE TIME WARP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” …. into the past !
Thanks, Bway. What street corner are we looking at here, and in what direction are we facing, in this photo ?
I don’t know what name, offhand. Perhaps Warren will be of some help.
It’s on my Cinema Tour listing, # 24245, as “closed”.
That’s all, folks !
Bway, thanks for mentioning that the Halsey no longer exists.
I will tell my dad, who will be sad, but who will appreciate having been told.

Aye, there’s the rub. Also the fun.
There are more things in heaven and earth, lostmemory, than are accounted for in my urban archaeology !
I think all you need is a name and an address, without a seating capacity.
Good working assumption.

Thank you, Warren and lostmemory.
