Right. I was saying that the Delaware Hotel, a two story building, must have been torn down to make way for the Dalton building. The caption implies that the hotel later became the Dalton, which I don’t think is the case as there is a disparity in size.
If you have good eyes or a magnifying glass, you can see a Grand Theater in the upper left of this 1914 USC photo. I don’t know if it’s this Grand or not. The photo description points out the Grand or I wouldn’t have seen it. It still took me a while: http://tinyurl.com/296c9x
The USC archive states that this 1896 building became Dalton’s Theater. I think they meant that Dalton’s occupied the location at a later date. I don’t think this building is the current one: http://tinyurl.com/2l5dp4
Here’s an LA Times article about the yet unidentified theater at 417 S. Main. Date is 3/7/37. I don’t see any other reference to a theater at this address. It may have just a hole in the wall. There are a couple of references to a rooming house at 417 ½, which I think was the hotel at the northeast corner of Main and Winston.
DEATH ATTEMPT HALTS SHOW
Man Shoots Himself at Film Theater
Two pistol shots which were not part of the sound effects stopped the running of a motion picture at an all-night theater at 417 South Main Street early yesterday morning. Employees of the place investigated and found Jack D. Riley, 58 years of age, behind the screen with two bullet wounds in the head. Still conscious, although one bullet had passed through his head, Riley told police that he shot himself because of ill health and financial difficulties. Riley was given emergency treatment at Georgia Street Receiving Hospital and then sent to General Hospital.
There was a story in the Appleton Post-Crescent on 9/9/59 about a fire which destroyed the screen and tower at the 41 Outdoor Theater. Do you think this is the same as the 41 Twin? The story says the 41 Outdoor opened in April 1949.
I have been working on my wife to get me into the Stadium on a Friday night. I won’t be able to take pictures, but I would love to see the current interior.

It doesn’t appear to have changed much in 65 years, at least from the outside.

The Larwin was advertised as a twin in 1976 per the LA Times.
The State is owned by a church, I thought, unless the church leases it from the owners.

I didn’t know you were working on it, obviously, or I wouldn’t have done it. It won’t happen again.
I added the Victory, which was number one. I figured you wanted to add the other dozen or so. All yours.
This is the photo from the site mentioned by Garth on 9/14/04. LM also tipped me off from his post on the Lyric page:

You know, I’m wrong on that, after I looked at the map from 5/9/07. I’m on the wrong side of the street. 417 would have been on the west side of Main.

OK, thanks.
The date of the LA Times article was September 16, 1896.

I know there’s a skating rink in one of the shopping malls on Silver Spur. I was there last Christmas. Is that the theater?

Did the bank take the place of the theater, or was the theater in the parking lot space next to the bank?
This 1935 ad promises 80 people on stage, “mostly girls”. I would hope so:
