Here is the ad for the 1970 matinee re-issue of the “Wizard of Oz”. I remember when I was working at the Drake the posters and lobby cards for this engagement were still there. They spared every expense for this ad, and the one sheet was not too much better either.

I can’t believe you think I live in Lombard, if you check the 1000’s of posts I have done on this site over the years you would know I live in New York. I think all your fighting is sad because as a New Yorker I can tell you we never got over loosing the Roxy, Rivoli, Capitol and countless others. It may cost money and it may ruin peoples plans for condos or K-Mart, but trust me a movie palace can never be duplicated and years from now you will regret loosing something that could be the center of your downtown.

The Valencia was playing Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth in “You Were Never Lovelier” in Jan of 1943. Note at the top of the Loew’s ad that wartime shortages of gasoline made them proclaim “There are Bus, Trolley, Subway or El Lines serving all Loew’s theatres”.

No wonder this town is dying they spend all their time on the internet with their passive aggressive rambling. Obviously they are afraid of getting their faces punched in and need to hide behind a computer. Like I said before this all reeks of payola and underhanded deals. I would LOVE to hear how more decrepit this town is in another five years. Anyone who thinks a library will be a draw to a downtown area is delusional. In retrospect a performing arts center might now work anyway, the residents of Lombard seem more suited for an action flick at the mall multiplex followed by a slurpee at 7-11. All you people worry about is money, there’s more to life then that. Performing arts touch the soul, never mind you wouldn’t understand.

It’s not 112 pictures just of the ANCO. If you go to the Corbis site there are a few hundred theatre pics. In the search type “Movie Theatres”, “Theatre Marquees”, “Theatres”, “Cinerama” etc. Some of them are cross referenced and some are not.

The two backstage theatres could easily be opened for movies again if they have not been torn out.

I have changed my opinion tear this place down. Hopefully it will cause your dying town to dye even quicker. If you people spent half the time raising funds that you do posting moronic claims on here the theatre might have stood a chance. In fact make the Dupage a giant 7-11 so your wait time for a “Slurpy” is not so long, I see where your priority and tastes run.
