Guys,I have it parking 400 cars in 1956,No estimate on roof seats. It was owned by Jack Guest.Noticed there were two other Drive-ins in Duncan in the late Fifties.
Roderick,I have across more than few folks saying theatre managers ask moviegoers to leave on the last show,I worked for ABC theatres,Plitt and GCC never in all my career in management did we ask someone to leave, what nonsense,Isn’t that what we were in the business for to entertain be it 2pm or 9:30 pm.Crazy if you ask me,must be small town policy even though members have told me larger cities did it.It never would have crossed my mind to issue rainchecks. And believe me their where plenty nights I had wished one to show, but outside a freak snow strom in Georgia someone always came.
With Regal it doesn’t surprize me,heck today it is all about running them in and out glad i got in 1983 when the theatre business was starting to change, sadly for the worse.Jodar it is a Money issue.
Nice marquee, but quite tacky with the third feature,I know save money leave the marquee alone.rpb.I hope you didn’t marry your “girlfriend”.What a jerk.
From an old Charlotte Plitt Meno,Tim Mason sold $27,563 in reduced admission tickets,I sincerely hoped they shared a per centage like GCC did with their Managers. These tickets, for those of you that do not know were sold to businesses,Schools, hospitals for those employees to see a movie for about 50 cents off the Box office price.RATS as we called them.Wow,raysson you truly know CAROLINA theatres.
Some really great stories,,as always the ones from old theatre folks are the best to read,I can relate to so many and the ones that JERRY couldn’t print here I bet anyone in the business for several years has witnessed.LOL.
Here’s one David, When the DREAMLAND THEATRE burned in Augusta,It is on CT; on the marquee,“SMOKEY TRAILS”,can’t make it up.LOl.The movie is not the marquee in any picture that have, just the way i worded it.
Yep,I knew a few old Projectionists that were working on a hobby during work instead of tending to business, often if we would get a second or third run on a film we would blame the scratches from coming from the DRive-ins,but according your facts often a\"Lazy\" operator in a first run house could ruin a print way before the Drive-in played it.Cline’s Book is pretty good .I met him several times at the Charlotte Western Film Convention always had a story to tell about theatres.
I got hold of a Plitt Memo from Charlotte naming Al Panetz naming him one of the top five sellers of Reduced Admission Ticket seller selling $5,400 for May 1983.

Nice way to go out on Marquee,so many theatres never have the chance.
BY the 90’s theatre ads, real theatre ads were long gone.
What stupid design for a Mall cinema.I worked at two, both GCC and it was easy access to the parking be it 2 pm or 2am.
A loser of a theatre all around to me.
Thanks Big Dave.
