Sometimes it is hard for me to put a theatre in SEARCH that i know is on CT,but comes back saying it is not on CT.I never could understand Computers.
Robin, get ready for some stories from Tlsloews. He has been reading all our history, now it is time for him to start confessing.
Hey, go to GCC CITADEL MALL if you haven’t.I left a post somewhere for you on the Citadel. It is a story about the actor George KEnnedy,as told by Barry, one of my theatre buddies i can’t get on CT.
Well, i ain’t undoing any Loews theatres. I did drop one,so i guess it is like the old record charts.
And you can undo them just as easy.
Finally figured how to do this,I could pop popcorn without supervision!
Cool Mike.
TLSLOEWS your theatre made my list of Favorites.
I will check out the 20th.Century Drive-in.
The one sheets were stored in the city managers office upstairs by the booth.By the way I have looked up Gaston Mall and read those stories.
WHERE DID YOU STORE THE ONE SHEETS! Hey, if you get a chance go to GASTON MALL THEATRE i have story there about something we talked the projectionist into doing. also my friend Nick, has put together a great story on the 20th Century Drive-in in Tampa.
When the Princess became the Crescent it was remolded for cinerama and ran these shows for only a couple of years before installing a new screen in front of the curved screen. The old curved screen could still be seen from the back coming in the loading dock, this theatre never had a stage, just storage behind the screen, screens, we had a wood framed storage area for conncessions covered with chicken wire over it behind the screens,we also had shelves for the marquee letters stored there too.
By the way I have no idea what was on the top 2 stories of this building although I worked there many years.I did go to the booth and walk on the catwalks over the house while the movie was playing it was cool.
Also the screening room was never used in my time,it must not have been used much it had seats just like the theatre but they looked brand new.The seats in the theatre were well used 415 on each side 830 total.
More info on the Loews Crescent it was in a 4 story office building, with elevator, screening room, booth.City Managers office upstairs, you had to go in an other entrance to the right of the lobby to get to the offices and booth, and to get to the elevator. There was a loading dock and storage area behind the screen. My office was behind the concession stand. The E-Z Loan company was over the Lobby.
Tisloews, enjoyed all the stories.I think guys like us should have just sat down and drained our brains on our theatres. You know to have one long story instead of all the posts we both have. But, just the other day i remembered Columbia 1 having gutter problems soon after we opened and had to rope off the Houseleft side of the screen on the first 4 or 5 rows.
The Ice story,Yep, The three downtown theatres here would do the same thing. I got Linda Blair to autograph a AIRPORT 75 one sheet,I couldn’t find an Exorcist.A couple of years ago i ran into Richard Roundtree and he said he would not sign any SHAFT one sheets. I had a CITY HEAT one sheet that he would sign.
I do not know if this is some kind of record but I remember that we showed “One Flew Over The Cookoo’s Nest” for 26 weeks, half a year, them it moved to the Loews Melrose and Loews Madison for 3 more weeks.I must have seen the end of this movie at least a hundred times. We were still doing good business when we finally changed movies.
“The White building to the right of the theater and the Church next door are still there.” You answered my question though I’d love to see a photo of the high rise condo that sits on the former theatre site.
Thanks, Chuck 1231 those pictures were taken on Christmas Day 1979.The White building to the right of the theater and the Church next door are still there.Roller Boogie with Linda Blair yea ha!!!!!
tisloews: Thanks…I have found it.
Patsy click on to my personal link tlsloews and look at my list of comment theaters you can click on LOEWS VENDOME and pull up its C.T. site that way if you cannot find it.
Would love to see a photo of the Loews Vendome.
tisloews: It certainly sounds like you have wonderful Nashville theatre memories! Thank you for sharing them! Is the Loews Vendome listed on CT? If not, please add it.
Patsy by the way the Tennessee and the Loews Crescent were 2 blocks from each other on the same side of Church street, The Tennessee was much larger inside and much nicer. Also the Loews Vendome was at 615 Church Street but it burned in 1967, And Loews took over the lease on the Crescent a little later.WE used to borrow ice from the Tennesee sometimes when we were real busy and they would buy change from us.All the managers new each other and helped each other even though they were our rivals.
Thanks for refreshing my memory in regards to the Tennessee as I do recall now that it is a high rise condo though not pleased. At least the land isn’t a parking lot!
