How did you get this great picture? I thought the balcony was closed off. I remember looking up once and I saw the balcony and was fascinated by how big the balcony area was. Great theatre. I’m glad I got to see it before it was destroyed
I wonder where the photos of the interior might be? I assume that photos were taking sometime during the theatre’s history. I’m sure we’d all like to know
To those of us who love movie theatres, we don’t care about the business model. That said, I agree with other posters that any owner of a movie theatre can not pass up millions of dollars for their property.
What a shame they tore down the Century. What a beautiful building. The area where the Gates and Monroe theatres were has undergone a transformation. Gentrification has taken root.
Partial view of the lobby of the Fair, April 7, 2017. After I snapped the picture I saw the man in the ticket booth give me a strange look. I made sure that I took the picture when no one was exiting or entering to protect their privacy.

What a terrible loss

I wonder how the congregation feels about someone coming in and taking pictures? I would love to see the interior.

I wonder if it was an ornate interior.
Why was it so sleazy? I am intrigued
There was a gay club on the second floor
Makes me so sad to see this old photo and know it’s now gone. But that said, the money the owner was able to get for the land was too much to pass up.
According to the gothamist, the Sunshine is closing.

Are all the theatres in the picture gone?
Anywhere know where the box office was located back in the day?

Mr. Katz, I mean did the church owners let you come inside?
I’m glad I was able to visit a few times during the porn era. It had a large auditorium. I was hopeful, until reading this, that it might re-open.
What was the tall building ?
Darn, I wish I had gone into these theatres when they were still open but I was afraid.
Where on earth might there be photos of the interior?
Here’s a street view from google maps.

I’m sure we can say goodbye to this theatre. The land is very valuable. Another damn apartment will replace it.
I went to the New Adonis (for research). I’m glad I got the chance to see the old theatre before it was closed. The balcony was still open.
I wonder how long the church will keep the building in light of the present development
