I was just reading some of the comments above, and I did see the floor too. It looked so remarkably good, that I didn’t think it was original (and still can’t be sure, I’ll have to check it out again). I also thought the molding was original around those big columns, but closer looking at it looks like sheetrock with newer molding installed around it. I was fooled at first too….but as I looked closer it looks too good to be original, but I certainly can be mistaken….

By the way, the place does look great. (or at least so good compared to the images I posted in Oct 2004 above). The Met Food signs use all three sides of the marquee, and the building has a fresh look all painted up. They took out the bushes in front, and that’s where all the shopping carts are stored. You enter the store right under the marquee doors.

The exterior has been painted yellow.
I went inside this morning to get a look, and aside from some large ceiling beams, that may have been “theater like”, that’s the only thing that I saw that may look like a left over from the theater days. I forgot to look at the deli counter. The Inside seems small, so it couldn’t be that big of a theater. I was never in the Vicotia house, so don’t really know what was left from it’s theater days when the Victoria house operated there.

I wish I could see a photo of the place when the place was still together

Yes, I remember the marquee and it was right about where those people are walking. The marquee (wow I wish I could see a historic photo), was still a movie theater style lighting, and “Glenwood” in little lights.

Thanks so much! Very interesting. I remember walking around there when it was coming down, but unfortunately didn’t take any photos… Well I was only about 13 or so….

Probably a great place to see a horror movie!

Bway commented about We're back online! (again) on Jun 14, 2007 at 2:49 pm

Well I never had problems with my MSN or hotmail accounts with anything else, but in this case…it is the cause of not recieving the “someone responded to your comment” theater emails.
It’s effecting both MSN and hotmail, as I tried both before calling my cousing to see if he was having a problem too, but he said he didn’t notice because he doesn’t read here often anyway….so that’s when I asked him to post a comment after I changed my email address on the site to the gmail one…and that’s when he said he didn’t have time, and instead gave me his password to test this out….
And voiola…I got the email for the response, so it’s up and running…just not for hotmail and msn users. Again, I don’t know if it’s a hotmail/msn problem, or a cinematreasures problem, but it’s sort of too much of a coincidence that the problem just so happened to begin with the server change….

And by the way, I used my cousin’s account, who I called to see if he was having problems. He doesn’t post here anymore, as he lost the time….but he gave me his password, and I changed his screen name temporaily to “Bway1” to test this out, and sure enough, I got the update emails when I made a post with his account.
Thanks for your patience through all this, as I said, it seems trivial, but I am one step closer to solving it I think. If I was having problems so were others….and changing the email attached to the account helped…. It’s definetely a hotmail/msn communication problem with cinematreasures, as with gmail it’s working fine.

Okay, I did a little test, the address I used for this site was a hotmail email address. I figured, let me change that…so I changed it to my msn address….still nothing…no emails.
However, I just changed it to my gmail address, and now I did get a cinematreaures email!

So the problem is, and I don’t know if it’s because of cinematreasures or msn (MSN owns hotmail too), but there is something wrong since the changeover with the way the site communicates with hotmail and msn email addresses…. This happened once before, and it was also hotmail people effected.
That could also explain why Patrick may not have gotten my email (or if he sent one back, why I didn’t get it from him).

….So that may be what needs to be looked into, the site is not communicating with hotmail or msn for some reason…and I don’t know if that’s a MSN problem, or a cinematreasures server problem…but that’s where it lies…. Once I went to gmail, I did get one email so far….so it has to be because of the hotmail or msn addresses before. I guarantee the people with the problems are probably MSN or hotmail people too….

Thanks guys for your patience in my frustration. I would rather use my msn address, but if I must use the gmail address instead, it’s not the end of the world, it’s one step ahead of before I figured this much out….but I am sure if I as a hotmail and msn user was having a problem, I would assume other hotmail and msn users were…it may be because of the server change, but it’s worth looking into….

I think the Madison closed in the fall of 1977 (or was it 1978), either way 50 years almost exactly….which was way too short for such a beautiful building….

The Madison closed in Fall 1977 (or was it 1978), so it was almost 50 years to the day…give or take a year…not long enough for such a beautiful building.

Thanks so much….that’s it!
Now if only I would have gotten an email saying that you commented here….I can’t get the emails with “someone responded to” to come to me! They stopped about a week ago or two, and completely cut me off from the site…I don’t know how to get them going again, and it’s almost insane that I have to click theaters to see if there are comments…. Luckily, I remembered I left a message in this theater the other day….
Ugh, it’s so frustrating!

End rant….

Thanks for your response….

I don’t get the update emails from any theater anymore since the site changed over…..so unless I check every theater I want to keep current with every so often, I won’t know if comments are made…I obviously won’t (couldn’t possibly) be doing that regularly…so if you guys need me, please feel free to email me directly….
I wish I could turn it back on, but I have no idea how. The box is checked, so it should be coming, but I don’t get any emails whatsoever from the site anymore unfortunately….I wish it could be fixed, but I know they have a lot on their plate with the site….

I wish I can get ANY of the update emails…I get nothing, nada, zilch. I can’t get theaters I want to get emails from…nothing anymore for the last week or two comes from the site!

I emailed Patrick, but I don’t think he got my email either, as I didn’t hear back….

I don’t know where else to ask this, and I searched for a theater, but since the windergarden is somewhat fairly close….
There’s a building on 8th Ave near 47th St or so, that now houses the “New York Sightseeing” Bus company, which is on the marquee.

Below find a link to a google street level view of it. It’s at around 47th and 8th (not 36th and 8th as the link will say, as that’s where I started when I was looking for it)….anyone know what theater that was (if it was a theater). I looked on the site, but couldn’t find anything on it….unless it wasn’t a movie theater, and only a legit theater. Any help would be appreciated….

Wow this is so interesting. I saw this theater the other day when I was driving on 3rd Ave, and figured it “must” be a theater, as it looked like one on the outside. An extensive search for it here made me find it finally…. There were a number of other theaters on 3rd Ave too….or at least looked like theaters.

Anyone know of any historic photos of this theater while it was still a theater?

I wish it was true, I still haven’t gotten them back, not even to new comments. For example, I didn’t get one for your response even to this page….

Vito, are the email notifications of responses working for all the theaters you have gotten them from in the past, or only new comments you have made? Mine still isn’t working unfortunately, I haven’t gotten anything from the site in over a week. :(

Bway commented about We're moving to a new server! on Jun 12, 2007 at 1:05 pm

Oh I apologize Patrick, I didn’t read all the comments above, just up to Vitos…I emailed you before I read this page….hopefully the email thing will work again….

For some reason, like the last time this happened, emails only come from comments I made after the problem began about a week ago…. Sorry to bother you with the email, as I now see you are already aware of the problem…. I just hope it will work for all the other theaters too soon, as like Vito said, we don’t want to have to make a comment to every theater we want to keep in contact with in norder to get the emails again….
Thanks again for your efforts.

Vito, I just discovered I am having the same problem. The emails stopped about a week ago for me too. I didn’t notice until today, but when a few days go by, and no emails from the site, I kew something was wrong. I rely on the emails, as it keeps me in touch with the site.
It has happened once before, and then I think someone fixed something, and I got them again, and it’s been fine for about a ½ year…but now again, they stopped.
I use a hotmail address for the site, and in the past it was other hotmail people that they stopped coming too also.
Please Patrick, if there is any way you can look into the problem with me getting the emails in my account, I would apprecite it (obviously others are having the same problem, like vito above).
Thanks so much, love the site, and it’s been great since the changeover, but the last week I have been out of touch because the emails stopped!
Thanks again.

Has anyone else stopped getting the update emails from cinematreasures? They stopped about a week ago.

Bway commented about Ridgewood Theatre on Jun 5, 2007 at 7:58 am

Tonino, the Ridgewood has 5 screens in 5 auditoriums….but depending on the movies, they sometimes show a different movie during the day than at night (kids movies, less poplar movies split, etc), so the marquee may have 6 movies listed, even if they only have 5 theaters, sometimes one auditorium may have a split movie, showing two different movies during the day in the same auditorium at different times…..
