I am Glad Russell backed me up at The BOYD THEATRE where all this talk started,Granted I never worked a 3700,the IMperial with 881 was the largest for me,but even those nights mid-week we might ten or less.I can picture my self calling Mr.Tinney my City Manager and tell him I am passing out rainchecks also with UNION operators would really wants to go through that heartache.I think they should show the last feature,or just have an 8pm showing. But if it was policy set from above then heck yeah I am doing it.It just wasn’t policy in the five theatres i worked in Augusta and Athens,Ga.
I have no problem with the courtsey passes.I know I have handed out a few for various reasons. I am Just glad to know I wasn’t alone in what I did. Thanks Russell.Above it stated Larger Chains do this, maybe so today.I am not in the business anymore and most of us know the moviegoer today is treated much different than say 1974,when I jumped in.Thanks Russell, and Henry 41,I learned that it is the norm in the business today to ask moviegoers to leave!
WEll, I am glad to know that!!!!I guess in OTHER parts of the country saving a buck or two is more important than the function of a Theatre and that is to entertain.I do remember one night at Columbia 1 and 2 we had no last show,Why? CAUSE IT WAS SNOWING.And Snow and Augusta don’t mix that well,Thanks Russell some of the commments I was getting made me feel like I was the only that NEVER ask someone to get up and LEAVE.I think we worked for two pretty good chains,GCC and ABC/PLITT that put customers first.
Yeah,I saw it,He was a heck of a security guard at The triple.I wish we could get Barry and Chuck on.I will mail it,i have it on my desk.Oh,when you had a night at Regency 1.2 and 3 and say a total of nine folks are there for the last showings,Did you pass out RAIN CHECKS?At the Boyd and Lake Theatres some folks think that is what we do when only a few show up.I have never done it,Never thought about it,am I stupid.
Hey, if it was a policy at GCC,ABC and Plitt I wish some District Manager would have told me,I just thought that was what we were in Business for to entertain a sometimes distressed Public.Even at 9:15 pm.
Bobby,If you find the Bio,“Dean and Me” Mr.Lewis discusses his venture into the theatre business, something he hasn’t written alot about, that I know of.
This Theatre had nice write up in BOXOFFICE,July 1984 dicussing the unique “angular figure eight concession stand. It had Almost 100 feet of counter space.Three complete service stations, and enough room for six to nine concession stand girls.10 automatic portion controlled soda heads.200 pound ice machine with a 1,100 pound machine in the back kitchen area.Marcus theatres said "they want the most number of people to be served ,quickly and efficiently. I would think they would. What a set up.
Yeah,you even got me stumped.
