The Olympia in Chelsea is listed in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook as having 800 seats and open daily. I don’t know if that seat count is correct. The 1927 FDY lists 2 other movie theaters in Chelsea: the Broadway with 1,000 seats, open daily; and the Strand with 900 seats, also open daily.

There was a MGM Theatre Report for the Center Theatre in Hyannis, with an exterior photo dated May 1941. The Report says the Center (which they spell “Centre”) was on Main St., was a MGM customer and had been playing MGM product for one year; was built in 1940 (that’s when it was apparently remodeled), was in Excellent condition, and had 570 seats on the main floor and 134 balcony seats. Total: 704.

The Phelps in Southbridge is listed in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook as having 725 seats. The FDY also lists a Plaza Theatre in Southbridge with 600 seats, and a Blanchard’s Theatre with 876 seats, open daily.

There is a “Day Square” theater listed under Somerville in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook with 700 seats, open 6 days/week. The seat count is close to that of this theater.

The heading above says that the Paramount had 1,268 seats. There are 2 movie theaters listed under Newton MA in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook. One of them, the Community Theatre, also has 1,268 seats. It was open 6 days per week. Was the Community a prior name for the Paramount?? The other movie theater was the Newton Opera House, with 1,200 seats, also open 6 days/week.
