I have 8x10 pictures from a bunch of the Century’s theatres. I have to find them and I will scan them to link onto here. I am almost positive I have one of this theatre showing the balcony still in place. When Cineplex was gutting the Meadows before they multi-plexed it the entire basement was full of filing cabinets with Century’s material. It all went in the garbage. One of the projectionists there knew I was into old theatres and grabbed a stack of the pictures.
In 1973 after the 70mm re-issue at the National the “Sound of Music” opened wide again. We discussed it before but they have the theatre listed as Brooklyn, if anyone was ever there they would know how crazy that is. The Oasis was right on the border of Glendale and Middle Village. View link
There is a tiny pic when they desicrated the great stage by playing basketball there

“And just think – it would play the Egyptian for a total of 68 weeks!”
We are lucky now if a film can play 68 days.
That’s the first time I EVER heard of a theatre playing 3D, squeezing people for more money for the glasses.
1973 the Northport played the “Sound of Music” on it’s re-release.

Is the Commack Drive-In not listed on here? I can’t find it?
The only one left is the Mid Island
“Lili” seemed to open different then other MGM musicals. It played Trans-Lux for two years before going wide.
