Here is the most current drawing for the building.
The building was sold as I thought so above and we are finally seeing work done to the building (work stopped a year or two ago). At the building supplies have arrived and a construction elevator installed.
Plans still call for a bar on the first floor and roof deck.
I really love this plan the building looks even more historic and beautiful than it originally did in the 20s.
When will the building be finished? Hard to tell, it won’t be done before the Super Bowl in ‘06, thats for sure.
The theater is located in Downtown Detroit, and basically the area is dead but is slowly being brought back, many nice historical office buildings have been restored into lofts.
The area isn’t bad and it wasn’t in the past. It wasn’t filled with lots of businesses but that is chaning. Crime in the area is not bad, chanced of getting a crime done to you is 1.5 in 10,000
Well from what I understand the theater would of had to go in order for the office business to survive. It’s a shame though, and I don’t support that conversion.
To be honest if I had to choose between having the office building occupied and having theater gutted or having the whole place intact and abandoned (theater and office bldg), I would choose it being abandoned, at least it would not be touched or gutted in anyway and could have been brought back.
Thats a shame.
One horse is in the glass atrium missing a head and another horse is in the room next to it, no chariot to be found. Photo HERE.
DavidDavid could you email me with any of your contact info? I would love to get into contacts and discuss the theater as well as show you some pictures.
This location based on photos I have is today the site of the ugly extension of the SBC Ameritech Building which features that strange red sculpture at the corner of the streets.
I finally got in to explore the United Artists yesterday,
the auditorium is in a state of ruin. Sadly the theater will be demolished, I’m 99% sure. The office tower is in great shape though.
What a shame. Too bad the theater looks to be in too bad of shape to be restored anyways. This could have been avoided if the owners cared and maintained the theater!
Hey Jonathan,
shoot me an email,
Update: No noticable work has been completed on the building.

Hey John,
You said that you were part of the crew to remove the projectors?
They are still up there, as is the huge horse chariot, smashed into thousands of bits.
Also to note on the marquee, it does not have MICHIGAN on all 3 sides, the replaced it on the right and left side with cool little detailing
This link will take you to a better list and posters of acts who played here.
Congrats!
Thats 2,000 theaters a year
About 167 theaters a month
About 38 theaters a week
About 5 theaters a day
Cool stuff
The Post Bar sign has been painted over in a shade of black, hopefully they sold it so something will be done with the property.
The interior is the same it has been in the last 2 years or whatnot. 3 of the projectors remaining sitting on the 3rd floor.
I now have my pictures of the interior of the UA located here

Thanks for the photos Charles.
A true shame

What a shame..
Hello lostmemory,
hope you enjoyed my site ;)
Don’t forget to include info on the theaters in Detroit they once had, the Michigan and the Adams. I can provide history and photos if needed.
This link will take you to a photo of the old exterior.
This link will take you to a photo of the remodeled art deco exterior.
Amen to that lance!
Norelco,
what a coincidence, they do the same thing to all our buildings here in Detroit! Let them rot and then demo them for parking lots!
What a shame. Too bad the theater looks to be in too bad of shape to be restored anyways. This could have been avoided if the owners cared and maintained the theater!
I agree with many that previews are fine but commercials shouldn’t be shown. They are unrelated to the movie and the movie experience.
Specs of stage located here.
