The semi new Imax screen here is not that big. The XD screen next door seems larger and has a better curve to it. They put in the Imax screen when the new Regal Stonestown opened up a few miles away with their 4DX, Screen X and RPX screens. No leg room at the Imax at Century Daly City. They crammed in seats so close in what was a regular size screen. You can’t read the reserved seat numbers on the seats. Good stereo split surround sound with deep base in the Imax auditorium.
If they can’t use the Cinerama Theatre name they can change to SUPERAMA It will fit in the neon sign light. Go with a different color not red white and blue. I think the Cinerama Inc people will let them keep the name with a fee.
Long closed Tara Theatre will re open soon now that Regal left the place stripped out. Owners of Plaza Theatre Atlanta are taking it over with a small remodel. Hope to show 70mm again!
This theatre in Pacific Grove near Monterey CA is owned by long time Enea Properties a movie theatre real estate company. Let’s hope they can get someone in to do some remodel work and re open the place. Needs to show art type movies not the same things as in Monterey. Bring in the films that don’t play in the area or classics from time to time. Maybe Drafthouse or CineLux may be interested? The Syufy’s under West Wind can take It over like they did in Santa Cruz CA. Bring in food and drinks. A great tourist town that now has no cinema. The Enea family can get back into showing movies like their parents did. I tried calling the company with some ideas and they don’t return calls.
Now word on the street is the two new young guys that bought the former Empire Theatre in SF will try to turn the building into condos. I don’t think the city permits or neighborhood groups will not let this happen. The cinema just sits there with graffiti. Turn the place into one single event space for music shows, comedy club or rental entertainment with drinks and food. Take out the wall in the former loge area and make one large seating area. The new owners need to try to keep this cinema as is with a deco remodel and try to get permits and funding to build above like in NY on air space not condos but a movie themed motel. The pricy area has no motels or hotels. Parking can be rough.
Thanks for the photo. Hope they have some black lights on this theatre lobby carpet to make It glow pop. I wonder If any carpet places in the USA sell this print design. Joy Carpets in the USA makes many black light glow rugs for movie cinemas and home theatres.
These SUPER SCREEN signs would bother me while watching a movie. Hope they go off after the trailers or can you still see the reflection? Nice size semi curved screen. Thanks SK
Thanks Stan for the info. Such a great curve screen cinema before ABC got money hungry and did a chop job. Showmanship at It’s best with color curtain lights and the great ABC Plitt UltraVision® system long gone.
So great to see these short clips in a movie theatre. If I had a cinema I’d run the classic hard to find intermission trailers along the candy/drink short teasers. Most are available on DCP. I have some on 16mm film and use them when making my trailer reels. Thanks Dallas for the photo. Looks like a nice curve screen also. Do they have curtains? You won’t find these short movie treasures at a big circuit plex.
After all these years the 4 Star now has STEREO SURROUND!!!! Too bad they did not tear out the tiny back side art space and enlarge the whole place into one semi large movie space with curtains. At least they are open with new sound.
A recent visit to the Palm Theatre Nov 3 2022 4PM watching Triangle Of Sadness in the small Theatre #2 space had problems. While a nice little clean art cinema in San Luis Obispo this auditorium did not have the right stage speaker working along with the two lame surround speakers. Too make maters worse they left the bright work lights on even after the one trailer they showed finished and the movie started. Had to find someone at the candy counter to tell them about the light and speaker issue. Never corrected the sound but they did turn off the work light. The Palm is the only game in town for most art movies. I wonder how long the sound problem has been going on in this auditorium?
Thanks Brade for this great 3D ad. It was probably not shown in the original two projector set up like in the 1950’s. Fox West Coast Theatres was the name before Mann took over.
Now open as of Aug 11 2022 under new owners from LA. Called CineLounge® Tiburon. Fully remodeled 3 cinemas state of the art. 2 auditoriums with 70 seats each and a small one at 25 seats I believe.

They may have curtains but not sure.

they took off the great neon marquee now will be a gym.
Is the screen curved or flat. Some photos make it look flat?
Thanks nice Cinerama curved screen.
One of the few Imax curved screens with curtains that work

Nice to see the Grand Theatre SF neon lit again. Now next is the Tower Theatre down the street.

Thanks Cliff they don’t mention 70mm in this ad, I wonder If they ran a roadshow 70mm/stereo film version?
No mention of Super Cinerama or 70mm in this ad. Thanks DB

Thanks Chris so nice that AMC is adding some color lights around the screen in some theatres.

Thanks DB 54 for the ad. Must have been a great stage show. A few years later this theatre became a Cinerama® Theatre I believe for Boston.
So nice with multi color lights. Many of these type of classic theatres just put in white light bulbs.
Thanks Kino. These need Yellow or Blue bulbs not white. Nice effect.
Thanks Kino, such a great looking screen, I guess no room for stage curtains.
