Yes Clearview is not a big chain. The run one theatre that used to be independent The Warner In Ridgewood NJ. It is a quad but retains a lot of the elements from when it was a single screen. The manager is very nice and she works hard on keeping customers happy.

Regal doesn’t seem to be having difficulty upgrading to digital at a very quick pace. Regal has some all digital complexes and are upgrading one or two screens in most remodels. No mater what your opinions about DLP it is going to happen.

I couldn’t agree with you more on BOTH statements Peter. Only one thing however. Having worked for them for almost 8 years, Clearview is HARDLY a major chain. They are a major chain wanna be, who unfortunately sucked up a lot of the beautifully run independent theatres you speak of. I know people are going to say former union projectionist with a grudge, but I have been in the business for over 33 years and I have seen what works and what doesn’t. And these big megaplexes have ruined the whole industry.
Digital projection IMO it not good as 35MM all this hubbub digital IS OVERRATED! Digital is going to HURT and put out of business many of the independent cinemas. Then the ONLY choice people will have is AMC REGAL and CLEARVIEW! Once that happens ticket prices will be $14-16 + more for a 3D film!
SUPPORT THE INDEPENDENT CINEMAS like The NEWTON Theatre in NEWTON! The Lafayette In Suffern NY and the Washington Theatre in Washington NJ!
They are all 3 GEMS with heart soul character! The owner at the Washington theatre and the staff are the nicest people!
the reason AMC is not yet converting to digital is because AMC is alot bigger chain than ClearView. They have to do Step by Step and not just jumping to conclusions… I’m not saying that they aren’t doing anything, they are but just at a slower rate
the only new movie this weekend is another street fighter movie, and several oscar winning movies are held over. no dlp.
btw, advance tickets for watchmen are now up.

I’m on the AMC website, and there are no advance tickets for this coming friday; usually on Tuesday night or Wednesday advance tickets are on sale…see the comment i made nearly a year ago. Are they working hard on installing digital projection for all screens?
Those preshow projectors also do most of the NCM Fathom showings, which I don’t hear that much from people who go to this theater for. One reason is that they’re more expensive than regular movie tickets, although moviegoers save a lot of money when they go see a Met opera at the movies vs going to a sold out show at the opera house in NYC. Save the money and catch one on PBS for free in HD. One other thing that this theater lacks showing is sporting events, which Clearview has experimented in select theaters, as well as a large party room, which the AMC in Clifton Commons has. At least the electronic snack signs are pretty cool.
Those shows were sold out as I can recall….to date, it’s one of the most popular 3-d movies of all time. Good thing that AMC will wait and see until the economy improves so that it can enhance the theater again; the last new big thing at the theater was the Met HD series, which are used by the preshow projectors and aren’t technically true hd projection systems.
In fairness to Clifton Commons, the reason why they are showing Coraline in 2D is because they have decided to hold over My Bloody Valentine in 3D. Apparently, they only have one digital 3D screen. But even that is sad…one AMC digital 3D screen within 15 miles of our area. Parsippany appears to have five digital screens, with at least two equipped for 3D (If I recall, they showed Hannah Montana on two screens.)
This is so pathetic! Every month we get a different story. First IMAX (Jul 08), then IMAX delayed (Jan 09), then NO IMAX…Combine TWO theaters, combine THREE theaters, combine NO theaters. In the meantime, Clearview keeps rolling along adding new screens. Within a 15 mile radius of this area, EIGHT theaters are showing Coraline in 3D…all Clearview (Bellevue, Headquarter’s Ten, Kinnelon, Mansfield, Millburn, Parsippany, Succasunna, and Wayne). FIVE theaters are showing it in 2D…all AMC (Clifton Commons, Essex Green, East Hanover, Wayne, and Rockaway). How is it that Clearview can manage this transition and AMC cannot? Since Rockaway opened, there have been eight 3D movies released (Beowulf to Coraline). There are nine more scheduled to the end of this year (Jonas Brothers to Avatar). That’s a lot of lost revenue considering most of it comes from the 3D versions (up to 70 percent)…shameful!
Hopefully they install it this fall and in time for the christmas movie rush this year….I’d like to see Avatar in 3D!!!
^^ it’s not going to be installed in time for Jonas Bro. concert. Because of the economy, the Imax is on hold as well the DLP Projector. But DLP won’t be coming in towards the end of the summer…
Just checked the showtimes and the only movie to be on two screens this weekend is Confessions of a Shopaholic, another mall movie playing at a theater near a mall. No Digital projection; hopefully they install it just in time for the Jonas Brothers concert movie.

Ahh Justin, quality non-union projectionists at their best. Mis-frames, shortened snipes, gotta love it. And the management too!! That’s an old trick to avoid having too many voids. Someone mispunched a ticket to the morning show, and sold it to you in the afternoon. No voids. Also against company policy. Those splices during the movie probably happened because they wound the film onto the platter too fast, and it snapped.
The showtime that was printed on the ticket stub was incorrect, too. It said 10:40 a.m. and not 4:20.
Just came back from a 4:10 showing of “Push”. The movie was ok despite some minor splices during the movie and a shortened version of the AMC feature presentation trailer as well as bad framing of the pre-show. Audience was not as crowded as expected, as most of the AMC moviegoers went to see either Coraline or oscar-nominated films. Near the advance ticketing machines, there is an outdated paper reminding moviegoers that My Bloody Valentine is not in 3-D and an outdated movie poster outside featuring The Day the Earth Stood Still, and I saw a truck putting up a poster for one of those Madea movies which I don’t care about. Next movie I’ll probably check out could be The International, and in March it will be Watchmen, hopefully in digital projection.
FYI, AMC’s main website, as well as the Moviewatcher website, is down for maintenance, but movietickets.com is still available.
