Patsy,
And yet another informative reply from Ms. Rogoski. Thanks Shelley!
Thanks! I am not versed on all the details as to why the theatre was not saved. My education on the matter would be limited to the press reports and the original developer no longer has any interest in the building.
Feel free to phone or stop by on your next visit to Nashville! While I realize the building pales in comparison to the historic Tennessee Theatre, it truly is a lovely place to live and work.
LOUB: I just received notice of this article through a local Buffalo friend’s email. I, too, made note that the new owners envision showing movies again. I wish them well as this theatre deserves to be saved.
And now this email came to me so if anyone can lend a hand with this request in memory of the Tennessee Theatre in Nashville, please advise. Thanks so much!
Good Morning Patsy,
Your most welcome and I have no issue with the posting of my comments. In regards to the photo(s), do you have a source where we could obtain them with permission to display?
As a native of Tennessee, I treasure ALL of our historic landmarks and hope to meet Mr. Snyder one day as I journey to Knoxville.
Good Afternoon Patsy,
And then this came from the property manager of the Cumberland:
Thank you for your email requesting a photo of the Tennessee Theatre to be posted on our website. I am uncertain as to the relevance of posting such a photo on a residential website where the audience seeking housing but should these photos be made available to us, we would certainly consider displaying photos of the Tennessee Theatre on the Lobby level of the building . It would serve as a tribute to the historical landmark for years to come!
Before I sent the above comment I included the CT website address so they can come by for a visit and read what so many have posted in regards to the FORMER Tennessee Theatre!
Below is what I wrote to the nashvillebusinesspage site so we’ll see what their response is to me! Should be interesting!
“I was told about this site on a theatre website that talked about the Tennessee Theatre that USED to be on the Cumberland site. Could you possibly include a photo of the Tennessee Theatre on your site so everyone could see what USED to be there! Thank you!”
Danny: Unfortunately, this type of theatre story is played out in more than a few cities though was surprised that Nashville had that kind of theatre mentality being Music City USA!
Great photo! Must go see this one during Derby week and Thunder Over Louisville which is the annual fireworks show by Zambelli out of New Castle PA that same weekend!
Lost: Your March 25, 2007 night photo of the marquee is magical. Thanks and check out that MB ad when it airs again as that is their newest advertisement! A very classy ad for a very class car by featuring that art deco theatre!
I just saw this theatre in a recent Mercedes Benz ad during the O'Reilly Factor on Fox last night! I’m sure many theatre buffs may have seen this same ad as it was the night Hillary was interviewed by Mr. Bill. I had taped the show so when this ad was shown I had to go back and hit the pause button on the remote to get the theatre name!
Interesting post on Feb. 18, 2007 of how the theatre came to be named the Millwald. And even the Millwald isn’t in the condition that we all wish, at least the town still has the brick building with the name MILLWALD on it and the art deco marquee! Amen!
Also read that the theatre was a multiplex with 4 screens after it being a single screen theatre so that tells me that it was divided in some way? In many cases theatres are divided between the lower auditorium and the balcony area which such is the case with a theatre in Wellsville NY which I have visited.
Pastor Robbie: Amen to your remarks and I only wish you well. I’ll let you know via this link when I come through Wytheville VA enroute to Charlotte. Or you can email me at I’ve been in the town years ago, but wasn’t into old theatres then and therefore did NOT have the theatre “bug”. I recall the office supply store with the large yellow pencil. Are the seats still in the Millwald and if so, what condition are they in?
It’s a shame that the Millwald was “a badly maintained building in need of much repair”. If that hadn’t been the case, it would still be a theatre though the fact that you are there now is a blessing, imo.
Pastor Robbie: I see that you just joined CT today so welcome aboard! I travel from NYS to NC each winter so may just stop by for a pastorial tour. If you spend much time on CT, you will soon learn that more than a few theatres are now churches. Do you have any childhood memories of the Millwald? If not, do any of your congregation members have memories that you could share with us?
Don Story: Thanks for the “eagle eye” update on this one in AZ.

This was the one line answer from Cumberland……
“I am sorry but we do not have photos.”

Great minds run together! LOL!
BTW, there is an old downtown theatre in St. Charles, Illinois. Can’t recall the name, but it is a CT listed theatre.
I don’t plan to be in Normal again as the reason I was there with my husband doesn’t apply anymore. The reason moved to St. Charles.
Lost: Great night marquee photo! I’ve been to Normal in years pas, but was not into old theatres then so have no memory of it.
Martin: The phone number on the marquee is 217/549-3000. Keep us posted!
This theatre has quite the marquee in all of its art deco bright color glory! A must-see for anyone living in that area of the Golden State!
