Thanks so much Ken, I eagerly await your photos!
From what it sounds like, it has changed very little architechtually from the way I remember the place, last being in there in 1991.
It may even sound like it’s cleaner!
Thanks so much.
Lost Memory and I must have been typing at the same time, so I didn’t read his post before I posted, but just to comment on his comments, as we both brought up, perhaps some sort of ad banner would be a solution. Again, it’s not too imposing, and many other sites use that. it’s not an annoying pop-up, but at least would be tolerable at the top, and would also not be imposing.
A pay site is bad for the reasons I mentioned, (such as the average person commenting or reasearching). Those too bring a human-ness to the site, that would be all but lost on a pay site which would turn the site into an elite theater geek site, as opposed to a valuable resourse site for the average person.
I like and thoughoughly enjoy the site, but part of what makes it so great is that random people can add or comment about a theater. It would in fact turn into a site of “elites” and “geeks”, without input from the average person. This is one of the reasons I much, much prefer this site to the cinematour.com site forum, which I wouldn’t even consider posting it, as the people involved in those forums are WAY to “into” it, and probably too intimidating for the average person.
Obviously, the webmasters know there is a problem, but for whatever reason chose to be silent at this time. Either it is so big a problem that it is hard or timely to fix, or they just haven’t had the time to address it.
Perhaps they should consider an ad banner or something first. I certainly don’t mean “pop-ups”, but maybe an ad banner at top or something. That is a source of income that would not be too imposing. Other sites also offer a voluntary “Amazon” support banner where people could donate money voluntarily through pay pal.
Ed and Lost, you are both right about the “bogged down on weekends and afternoon”. But look at the recent comments on the main page. The last comment made was made on the 22nd. That was last Thursday. The pages have been inaccessible since then. While it occasionally happens at “peak” times, this time it is for days straight. At midnight it is just as inaccessible.
There is a majopr problem with the site. It is impossible to get into the various theater sections. The recent comments are from days ago, as it is not possible to enter the theater pages, much less comment.
As for the “guests”, that’s probably the problem, however, it’s not because there are all these “guests” out there. I think it has to do with people trying to get in, members or otherwise, and being unsuccessful. Each attempt must be a “guest”.
There’s no way that on a Sunday morning early, there are close to 500 “guests”, especially when the theater sections are unreadable. The number has to do with the fact that there is a problem
I used to live in Ridgewood, and my mail often came addressed to “Flushing, NY 11385”. I hated that, but it was all the time. Of course, it also came to “Ridgewood, NY 11385” too, but it definitely wasn’t rare for “Flushing, NY”. That was especially true for junk mail.
Even the city’s public records are sometimes searched by “Town=Flushing, Section=Ridgewood” for Ridgewood addresses. That could be because all the mail is sorted through the Flushing post office (and as mentioned Jamaica, etc).
This brings up another strange anormalty that QUeens has. Unlike all the other boroughs, like Brooklyn, etc, in QUeens, you usually still do address by “Section” name as opposed to the county or boroguh name. I don’t know why this is.
For example, for Queens, you would do:
John Smith
123 Any Street
Ridgewood, NY 11385 (or Flushing, NY 11385)
instead of
John Smith
123 Any Street
Queens, NY 11385
However, you would never see:
John Smith
123 Any Street
Park Slope, NY 112XX
as opposed to:
John Smith
123 Any Street
Brooklyn, NY 112XX which is the customary way to do it
or you would never see:
John Smith
123 Any Street
Chelsea, NY 100XX
as opposed to the customary way of:
John Smith
123 Any Street
New York, NY 100XX
I don’t know why in Queens it’s still done by town or section as opposed to County/borough like it’s done in t he rest of the city. I personally like the Queens way better, but it’s strange that it’s done like that there, and no where else in the city.
It’s almost a sin that a theater with the status of this one, being among one of the “Wonder Theaters” doesn’t even have an opening paragraph or two as a description. Perhaps someone should submit something?
Ed, I agree, I also liked the former Midway’s balcony theaters. It could be because it was a novelty, statdium seating as a common feature was still years away. Not to mention that it was perhaps one of the cleanest, well kept theaters I had been to at the time. The place was maintained beautifully in the 80’s, and into the early 90’s when I stopped going there.
I also taped the special (and watched it last night). It showed some great interior of these theaters. I too wish there was more on the 175th St. They had plenty of interior footage of the Valencia, also a church, so am surprised they didn’t have much on the 175th St.
The Kings, while in terrible need of attention, seems to be “better” than I had thought it would be, especially considering it was closed for 30 years. Of course, again, it’s a mess, but it could be a lot worse after 30 years of neglect.
Any current status for what’s left of the theater? From the above posts it looks like they were planning to reopen further auditoriums but never did? Are any still open?
Did this theater have a small balcony? I am trying to figure out what the “catwalk” in the back of this theater (now the store) was when it was a theater.
That is odd. When it became a twin, did they just close the balcony completely? I say this because when it was a twin, it had the same amount of seats in theater 1 and 2 as it did when it was a quad. It sounds like they just cut the downstairs in half, and closed the balcony. Then cut the balcony in half later, and made 3 and 4 out of that? How long did it operate as a twin?
I wonder if it got lost when all the site chaos and bugs happened this past weekend.
Warren is right, it’s obviously not a photo of the theater!

Haha, this Jackson Heights Theater is a hostile theater!
Speaking of airplanes…..how about THESE theaters!!

Haha, yup, I am mixed up then. I am thinking of the one near 86th STreet. Is that one listed on this site?

Thanks for the photos Ed.
Is this theater still single screen or was it split?
How are the auditoriums in this theater?
I believe it’s Bushwick.

What is the Needles currently being used for?
Great photos Ed.
The Woodrow building had been replaced by two small one story buildings at some point:

What is the current status of this building?
Did someone ever add the Century 25 to the site?
