Hey Bryan. Just wanted to say thanks for your posting of the Granada in Alpine. Because of that I visited the Texas Escapes website and was able to place towns with eleven separate theater photographs that I had all but given up on the locations.
By the way, the Granada was one of them along with the Texas in Kingsville.
Hello Cinema Treasures. This is my posting, however the wording is not all mine. I do not have and have never seen any Film Dailey Year books and never make reference to them.
I submitted this as the RITZ after having researched information from the Hobbs library. I found reference from two separate authors saying the RITZ was the first Hobbs theater. Neither author called the Roosevelt a theater.
One article made mention of the Roosevelt as having burned down, but did not call it a theater.
I did not see any information saying the RITZ name was changed to the Roosevelt.
Would it be possible to change the wording and name back to the RITZ unless someone can present more reliabe info?
Hey Bryan. The Hobbs library info says “ the Ritz was built on the site of the Roosevelt, which was destroyed by fire several years ago.” The info is somewhat conflicting, because it also says the Ritz was the first movie theater built in Hobbs. It doesn’t call the Roosevelt a theater so I am at a loss on this. From what I have read, I gather that the Rig and Roosevelt were not one and the same. I visited Hobbs about 11 years ago and don’t think any of these buildings have survived with the exception of the old Frontier Theater building.
Thanks again Mark. If you come accross any images pertaining to any of the Hobbs theaters that you would be willing to scan and send my way, I would happily post them on C/T and credit you.
Why not post some theaters yourself, sounds like you have some good info and reference material?
Wow!! Newspapers from the 40s? What a great source for old theater info. I am a NUT for the old theater signs. Can you describe the Frontier and Reel signs or any details about the interiors or exteriors of these two theaters?
Thanks for your comments and for acknowleging the murals. I can recall them, but not one movie that I saw there.
Hello MissRandi. The Haltom is now being used as a furniture store. They recently invited me in to look around and I am happy to say the building and Haltom sign remain in great shape.
Hey Ken. On this one I am having to rely on info from the Hobbs public library. It says the Frontier was “put in” in 1952 which may explain it not being in the 1950 FDY. Which by the way is the only sentence devoted to the Frontier. However, it does mention separately a “DERRICK” and a “RIG” theater along with a few more theaters that came and went in Hobbs' history as an oil boom town. I did check with a cousin and former long time resident who only recalls it as the Frontier, however, experience tells me all this could change with the next comment that may come this way. Thanks for your reply!

Oops!! I can now see that the posting by lostmemory is the OKC Redskin minus the Indians on top of the sign. I wonder what happened to them. I have been in touch with a man in Austin who thinks the entire sign was salvaged. Thanks everyone. See two of my Redskin pix here:

Unless there were ever two Redskin Theaters in OKC, the one in the above post is not from Oklahoma City.
