Bellerose is the name of contiguous towns in Queens and Nassau. Roughly from Cross Island Pkwy east to Commonwealth Blvd and beyond, the county line runs down the middle of the street, with the eastbound lanes in Nassau and the westbound in Queens. The north side of the street is Jamaica Ave and the south side is Jericho Tpke. The Bellerose is/was in Nassau County, on Jericho Turnpike.

Yes, Century’s Nostrand, had the half-wall too. But they placed glass on top of it but the noise still traveled from the lobby into the auditorium.

Till the day this theatre closed it had no real rear wall. It had the half wall with the curtains above it. You had to keep the lobby very quiet or it would be heard all over the audience. Centurys ran this for years as one of the discount houses wherre the price was the year, 77, 78, 79 cents.

This was part of the Century Theaters circuit, which once owned many theaters along Jamaica/Jericho Avenue.
