I would also like to get in touch with Castle Restoration and Construction about another theater I am interested in restoring (the Loew’s Kings of Brooklyn). Does anyone know their url or E-Mail?
I tried to get in touch with the Friends of the Suffolk, and I have not heard from them in months. Would someone from the organization please try to contact me here.
Well, after two weeks without a computer (I used one in the library one day and didn’t like it), I am finally back. I was looking at the site above that had the fight. That fight was in 1964, and it was part of the King history. It was during the Ali Frasier Fight that a fire broke out in the projection room. This, however, did not close the Kings which is constructed of fire retardant materials. The theater went on for another 15 years.
I never went to the Ronkonkoma Theater because it was a porno house. However, I loved the marquis. The frame was two toned green with red neon lettering. The letteboard was yellow, and the usually used black letters. I don’t think they got another use out of the theater, and the marquis has been replaced by a Checkers Hamburger Stand. The bowling alley is gone from that basement.
That was a nice theater, I recall sitting in the balcony with kids from my school and watching ‘Finian’s Rainbow’. I guess I should be thankful I left Brooklyn in the middle 70s insofar as movie houses. I would not want to see those things multiplexed.
I just got curious…I heard about the Alan Freed Shows at the Paramount. I am too young to remember them (born 1961). I was wondering if anyone on this site ever been to one.
It was a single screen theater at first, which was great. It was multiplexed, which I am glad I did not see. Then finally, the worst, it became a Modells Sporting Goods Store. The Kenmore was great.
What is this, Christmas in July? (LOL) All kidding aside, I enjoyed reading about the strange Holiday fare that came to the Palace. I would never guess that such shlock as SANTA CLAUS AND THE MARTIANS played theaters on Broadway.
Theaterat;
I would not be discouraged about the Kings. It may be in sad shape but the building still shows grandeur. There is no reason why you can’t volunteer at two theaters.
Theaterat;
I was unable to get in, so I filmed the outside. Frankly, Marcus Loew would be turning over in his grave, but I think the theater can be helped.
Everyone;
I am looking for pictures taken inside the Kings. Anything from old home movies to photos. I want the historic stuff. Does anyone on this page have it?
That 931 Montauk Highway may be correct, but it is still in a shopping center. That 394 seats may be correct, I guessed at 400, but several were removed for the handicapped.
I am going to admit that their production of the Pajama Game was lousy, but only because the musical was dated. Not many people today wear pajamas.
However, Fame the Musical, which is currently on the stage is excellent. the voices are beautiful.
Why doesn’t someone restore it? It had a nice look inside before all the pigeon poop.

I spoke with Bruce 1 and the meeting should happen soon.
Moosh;
When did this happen?

Well Bill;
I hope after all these years, you find that bracelet.

Thanx guys
Bruce 1;
Can we meet Monday beneath the King’s Marquis?

If we decide to move to Staten Island, I may look into that idea of starting a small, community theater there.
Throughout most of the 1970s it was a Broadway House, and did not show movies.
Does the St. George have amateur theater? I was never there. I want to go see it.

Is the theater still open?
Mr. Rankin;
Before I forget, thanks for the information.

When did Aida close? I wanted to see it, but never did.
What about adding performing arts into the Kings, like community theater. Many old movie houses have been changed to community theaters.
Does anyone out there have pictures, or film of the inside of the Kings? You can’t get in.
I went there twice already. It’s sad, but you can still see the grandeur despite the decay.
