MIAMI, Fla.-Blank pistols are standard equipment for ushers at the Harlem theater in the Miami negro section. Jack Woodberry, an usher, explained the practice when ho was brought into court on a charge of shooting at a negro boy. He said his pistol was loaded only with blanks to frighten youngsters who threaten to crash the gate. Otherwise, he added, the boys return and throw rocks at the theater entrance. A fine against Woodberry was suspended.
No wonder they called it Tri-City. No one seems to know where it was, specifically. The 1952 ad puts it between Colton and Redlands, but my question would be whether Loma Linda even existed as a city back then. If not, then the theater would have been in no mans land between the two cities mentioned in the ad.
This was in the Redlands Daily Facts in April 1953:
One hundred and forty were present last evening as Junior Women of the Contemporary Club and their husbands were guests of Manager William O. Hallett for a theatre party at the Fox Theatre. The three-dimensional film, “Bwana Devil,” was shown as the program highlight, followed by “The Savage” in technicolor. A buffet supper was served by candlelight at the Contemporary Club after the theatre program. Spring flowers had been arranged on the supper table and on the mantel by Mrs. Robert Knight, Mrs. Hugh Folkins and Mrs. Donald Leonard.
“Quo Vadisâ€, the story of the world’s most wicked empire and the love story of a pagan soldier and a beautiful Christian slave girl, starts tomorrow at the Tri-City Drive-In theatre, Highway 99 between Colton and Redlands. The Metro Goldwyn Mayer film stars Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr with a cast of thousands.

It looks like the city should be East Chicago, IN. Indiana Harbor is a section of that city. Zip should be 46312.
