This coming weekend AMC will play numerous IMAX versions of popular movies from several years ago. In addition to Contagion, there will be Fast Five, Inception, and Star Trek. Most of them are blown-up versions rather than filmed in IMAX. This before real steel comes out in blown-up format. I’d save my money and see Mission Impossible 4 later this year, then wait until The Dark Knight Rises comes out, since both were partially shot in IMAX. John woo’s next movie will be filmed in IMAX, called Flying Tigers. The last movie that I saw that filled the imax screen was Tron Legacy, which was awesome. Any movie that was shot in 1.85 will fill the imax screen, and for 2.40 movies it will be bigger than the smaller screens.
I checked movietickets.com and couldn’t find advance tickets, so i asked AMC on Facebook if they’ll show Ghostbusters in 2k and 5.1 surround sound. The original GHostbusters played at the AMC 12 in 1984 and did gangbusters.
Went to see Moneyball at the AMC in Rockaway, and it was great!!! Text was sharp on screen and the sound was awesome. Only thing that I noticed was that the brigtness was set at medium to allow fluid action without showing any artifacts. A sign near the lobby warns customers not to bring any chinese food to the theater. Hahahaha.
Hakuna Matata!!! The Lion King 3D and 2D digital release was number one at the box office again for the first time in 17 years, grossing nearly $30 million, beating out Contagion to second place. The last time Simba and friends invaded rockaway was when the Rockaway 12 theater opened. Thankfully Rockaway is showing the 2D HD bluray version of the film so that people with tidy pockets can see the movie the way it was meant to be seen. Advance tickets for the first part of the final chapter in the Twilight Saga go on sale in October. I can’t wait to see Moneyball in Sony 4k at this theater. I love baseball, so I’m sure I’ll check it out.
This is the entrance to the AMC Rockaway 16. An arch-like entrance reminsicent of the Paramount pictures gates welcomes visitors to the theater. Inside the theater, there is a star-like light fixture. A tree outside the theater provides a nature atmosphere. The left and right sides of the entrance provide advance ticket sales in addtion to the lobby.
About three IMAX releases are playing at this theater on one screen, i think that’s a record. Transformers 3D, Harry Potter 7.2 3D, and Kung Fu Panda 2 3D are now showing.
advance tickets for the twilight movie are on sale. They are selling out quickly.

At least AMC is still the largest employer in Kansas City.
Clearview has renamed the 3 screener the Kinnelon Arts Centre while the 8 screener is still called Kinnelon.

For the price of a mini car, I’d take it.
Imagine if the Lion King returned in 3D for its premiere at this theater lol.

theater #9 is the imax screen.
theater now open again.
Looks like they installed Digital IMAX in this theater for Contagion this weekend. What screen is it? Is it as big as rockaway?
On this day 10 years ago, this theater was severely damaged. It would take several months before the theater reopened.
Theater will reopen this saturday, according to fandango.
originally the general cinema sign was in this theater.
This is the side entrance to the theater, which was added when the theater expanded from 8 to 14 screens in 1997. The sign is still intact.
this theater closed down due to hurricane irene..it still is closed.
