Response to Ed Blank: Of course, there were two main routes from downtown Augusta to Ft Gordon – and there were drive-ins along each route. Anyway, here is a list of all the drive-ins I can remember:
The SkyView (in the Albion Acres area off Milledgeville Rd)
The No. 1 Drive-In (at the fork of Milledgeville Rd and Hwy 1)
The Forest Hills (Wrightsboro Rd)
The Weiss (Hwy 25)
The Hilltop (on Schultz Hill just across the river in SC)
and the Marrh was the indoor theater in N. Augusta, SC
I just checked out an exterior photo and like the “It’s Time” on the marquee between the word MILLER. Clever!
I hope to see one of Roy Benjamin’s theatres this winter, the Marion in Ocala FL.

Is Aiken the nearest city of some size in South Carolina?
Does anyone recall the name of the drive-in theater that was just outside Augusta? I think it was between Downtown Augusta and Fort Gordon?
Also, what was the name of the drive-in just across the border in South Carolina, please?
And does anyone remember the name of a nice single-screen indoor theater just across the border in South Carolina that was newish in 1965? During the Christmas season in 1965 I saw “Boeing-Boeing” there and then returned for “Thunderball.”

Oh man, with the Imperial across the street beginning to show classic films in the vein of Easy Rider, Gone With the Wind, and To Kill a Mockingbird, This theater is poised to offer a more ‘art’ heavy menu, with smatterings of ‘Rocky Horror’ night, and ‘Grease’ sing-a-longs. Augusta is ripe for this theater’s renewel. And at under $250,000 I can assure you someone will snag this one very, very soon. Especially with the continued revitalization of downtown.

After recently seeing the inside of the Miller, I was very saddened. I have many childhood memories of this beautiful theater. If I was financially able, I would purchase this theater and restore it to its glory days. It is such a shame that such a gorgeous theater is deteriorating more everyday. Is anyone else as interested in seeing the Miller restored as I am? Does anyone have any ideas on how this wonderful old movie palace could be saved before it is too late? Secondhandrose
