Yes the elaborate and grand original Coliseum Theatre was made a lot less elaborate and unique around 1950. Something very dramatic about viewing a film there though. Great curtain design and art deco proscenium. Big wide screen too. The auditorium was not deep but wide and one felt very close to the big screen. Probably still my favorite theatre in Seattle. Hope it is restored someday and used for stage presentations. Seattle needs another stage theatre. It just needs a stage.
All 6 theatres here have big slightly curved wide screens and great sound. Also theatres and rest rooms are clean, clean, and clean. Unusual for an older theatre these days. Always has been kept up well.
Yes the Seattle Cinerama is quite spectacular. Saw 2001 there in it’s Cinerama opening back in the day and wow! Just as good as any Imax. This theatre has been completely restored and plays both Cinerama, 70 mil. and 3D. And it has stars in the ceiling. LOL. The Chinese will be great again too.
Northgate Theatre was very stylish. I would call it post art deco moderne. Rings of neon decorated the ceilings of the lobby and theatre itself and most corners were rounded. Many new theatre buildings are boxy and unattractive. This was graceful and unique. It will be missed. Piece of history gone for Seattle. And that very cool huge marquee.
Always has been one of the better multiplex theatres in Seattle. Well taken care of and has a stylish lobby with funky neon. 3 of the auditoriums have very large curved screens and all have excellent sound. Great in city location too. A class act. Also always very clean including the rest rooms.
Seattle was losing part of it’s soul with the destruction of this and other grand theatres. This one was one of the grandest. It made Seattle unique among cities.

It took longer than expected to tear down this gem. One of the most beautiful theatres in the world. Lavish in marble and stone and ornate plaster gilt. Never to return.
This was a lovely small theatre with a huge cinemascope screen and great sound. My Fair Lady, Camelot, West Side Story and other blockbusters played long runs here. It had elaborate plaster interior decoration and coloful murals in the ceiling and on the walls. Another loss to downtown Seattle. Blue Mouse was across the street. That was the first sound theatre in Seattle. Also long gone.
Wonderful pic of entrance. Box office and lighting ficture is beautiful. Also signage. A great building. It should still be there. A waste to tear it down.
A very lovely old building design. Interior images would be fun to see. Was a fairly large theatre I imagine. Arched windows and large marquee is dramatic.

Elegant murals and railing is post art deco. Very stylish lobby. Cheers to the past.
Interesting art deco style and funky marquee. Small town charm.
Good size screens and clean. I miss the Northgate theatre. It had style. Post art deco modern and not a box.
Roman arched windows and detailed brick work made for an elegant look. Sad this lovely building is only history. Anyone have interior pics?
Great pic of the old theatre. Looks like a scene from an avant garde horror film. Sharp looking marquee and sharply designed art deco facade.
Wow but a bit overblown. Like elaborate theatres but there is a limit. Still should have been saved. Proscenium arch is outstanding and plaster work.
Art moderne at its finest. Really handsome building. To bad it is just history. That city’s loss.

Marquee as dramatic as any in theatre history. Stonework on facade is lovely too.
Ornate and beautiful exterior. Marquee is classic too.

Dramatic marquee and signage. Hope they saved some of it.
Looks like some water damage but still an elegant vintage theatre. Great side seating and proscenium design. Should be saved. Dome ceiling?
Remember the dramatic neon designs on the exterior. One of the best in this corridor of great theatres. Only one left here I think.

Also wish the tall C sign and original marquee would be used again. Very funky. It used to light up the area for blocks. Dark neighborhood.
