next year marks 10 years since this theater opened, and became the 9/11 theater due to its close proximity to the twin towers. In 2012 the 10th anniversary of the Tribeca film Festival will take place.
This theater and east hanover have the bedbug issues that have plagued the Empire as well as other AMC theatres. I’m sure the Orkin man is not that pleased lol. Hopefully they spray enough bedbug spray in all of the screens to keep it safe from happening again.
Out of the two that are still standing, I’ve been to Radio City so many times, while I haven’t been to the Ziegfeld although my dad has been there on occasion to see big event movies in 70mm and 5.1 analog Dolby Stereo Surround Sound (Apocalypse Now was one of those movies that were only playing in that theater).
And coming up next weekend, Resident Evil Afterlife comes out in Digital IMAX 3D as well as RealD 3D, not to mention 35mm 2D. It’s September already slimshady, are all screens going to get digital projection anytime soon? We have more 3D movies coming out, not to mention more movies being shown in 4k, such as The Social Network, which was shot with a 4K camera. I never seen a 4K movie in a theater, just 4k 3D and 2k 2D at the AMC in GSP as well as the Clearviews in Succasunna and Mansfield.
Seems that people are getting tired of seeing anything that’s great in 3d due to poor box office and high ticket prices. That was the case with the extended version of Avatar which didn’t crack the top 10 but so far has added $3 million to its massive gross. About 70% of the gross came from 3D and Imax 3D showings of the epic movie. Since then, the grosses for each 3D version of a big movie have shrunken. Maybe if AMC lowers 3-D ticket prices would bring moviegoers back to see 3-D movies, especially those that were shot in true 3D. The next movie I’m going to see in 3D will probably be Resident Evil Afterlife, and as for IMAX I won’t bother seeing anything.
Yesterday, Avatar broke through the $750 million mark with a $1,000,000 gross due to the re-release of the movie. JJD, did you see the extended version in realD? Are any of the extended scenes worth seeing or should I wait until the longer cut on bluray? The longer cut, from what I read, will have about 16 minutes of more footage than the theatrical cut, which is the version most fans prefer since the re-release is not doing well at the box office. There’s some good articles in EW and Time about the declining state of 3-D movies since Avatar opened. Hopefully it will rebound once Harry Potter and Tron Legacy come out.
i agree….i sat in the middle of an IMAX screen in Rockaway and saw the pixels floating around the screen. Good thing Rockaway will have digital projection that’s higher res than digital IMAX (4k vs 2k) in all of its screens.

Just for laughs, here’s a video showing trailer snippets of movies that were shown, now playing, and coming soon in 3d.
