Entering the ticket lobby, enticed in summer by a blast of cool air emanating from an open door, and mounting a couple of steps was to be at the foot of the magnificent marble staircase with the great marble eagle glowering down at you, and with huge bunches of fresh flowers on either side. If something glittered gold, it WAS gold. On either side the twin galleries looked back towards Rundle Street and a few steps leading to a long lounge with Regency period furniture and fine statuary and paintings behind the curtains of the seven windows fronting onto the street below;
