From those eBay pictures, this place is seriously bad shape. Also the $5000 is a reserve price so if no one else bids you still wouldn’t win unless you ponied up more. Good luck to whoever gets it!
Some info the Roosevelt. It’s available for rent for $15,000 a month (!). There is still seata and a screen, but no sound system or projector. No idea how it actually looks in there. The phone number for the gentleman who is renting it out is (305) 538-2186.
Pretty standard mulitplex that looked better in it’s GCC days. Sunrise Cinemas last year made this place interesting by showing older films on Fridays and Saturdays as part of it’s Flashback series. They showed movies like Ghostbusters, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Pulp Fiction. 80s blockbusters were featured the most as I recall. But this only lasted a couple of months and now it’s back to business as usual.
Is the Lawford haunted? I found this after a google search. “Originally opened in 1914, the Lawford was used over the years as a venue for live performances and motion pictures. Reports of ghostly activity stem from the period of live theater. It is said many actors experienced unexplained cold spots throughout the building as well as feelings of being watched and unexplained sounds. Perhaps the most terrifying accounts are those of a former stage manager whose ghost is said to haunt the basement. He is seen, only to vanish as he is approached. After a decade standing empty and unused, the Lawford reopened in August 2004. It remains to be seen if the ghosts of the old theater remain!”
The Gateway is a great theater. The only one in Broward County with a classic marquee. Not the greatest sound system but a great place to see indies has a nice classic look inside.
Anything on Miami Beach is most likely too pricey for me. I live about a half hour away in Broward and will drive by it today. How much is it going for?
That story in the Village Voice is fantastic. Should be a movie.
What’s the status of this place? Did it ever sell?

Is up for sale on eBay currently.

Is this place worth it? Would the community support a movie theater or is it too small? It’s a great looking place.
I see there is a for rent sign on it. Does anyone know how much it’s going for and what it’s like inside?

The Cinema 4 Pompano, where I saw many films in the 80s, is now a night club called Club Cinema. Here is a link where you can read about it. View link
Is this theater being used for something else these days or just laying dormant?

What is the current status of the Lawford? The ebay listing still exists for anyone looking for pictures. It looks great to me. View link
The Ultravision is still a church I believe. It’s on US 1 in Deerfield, still looking like a movie theater. It closed in the mid to late 80s.
