As a youngester I recall going to this theater. Children under twelve before 6 p.m. was 12 cents admission. The theater was not airconditoned but somehow was comfortable even on very hot days I recall posters on the outside of the building that read Movies direct from the Loop. During the late forties the owners remodled the lobby, installed all new seats and a new sparking marquee.

The Rialto was a very popular movie theater. After a movie many Elgin residents would treat themselves to a Soda Fountain creation at the nearby Esquire at 12 South Grove. The Esquire was a favorite to many for lunch or a delicious dinner. Originally when opened it had its own candy kitchen and sold boxed chocolates in the front part of the beautiful establishment. The building was owned by Waldo J. Bielenberg and his sister.
I remember it well as a kid. It was a lovley theater almost on the order of some of the downtown movie houses. I remember seeing the movie “ Ivy” staring Joan Fontaine there, don’t know why I remember that but it sort of stuck in my memory. I used to take the Chciago Avenue bus to get there.
