Even though they removed the U.S. rating from the ad, the MPAA symbol slipped through.

Compare this photo with the next and you can see the same audience in the same position. Obviously a cut and paste job.

I found out that the space has been turned into a Walgreen’s with that store’s entrance on the other end of the area from the theater’s entrance. The theater entrance area is a Wendy’s and a boarded up space. I found out from this video: https://youtu.be/IN0ohdR3Rss?t=1609

The front of the theater is printed in a book about movie theaters. When I went to Washington DC I had no idea I would see this theater in person, but here it was.

I saw Black Dahlia here, probably in the State. By the time the movie ended, they had moved it to another theater. They let the end of the last reel run out on screen and in speaker, and I wondered if the failsafes would kick in before the lens melted.

The building still stands, exterior redecorated, as an extension of Kent-Meridian High School. By the way, they did redecorate in emerald green wall curtains before being closed. They added stereo, which they cranked up past distortion as if it was a THX installation. It wasn’t.

Now that the Lewis and Clark theater has closed, the Des Moines Cinema has started showing first-run movies. That along with the closing of 12 screens in Federal Way means this single screen movie theater has a large area of South King County all to itself.

They have indeed started to demolish the theater. They have started from the west side, claiming the four new theaters and the old split-level balcony. All that is left is the front of the first auditorium and some Lewis and Clark murals on the walls. Someone else was taking pictures there today too. I’ll post my picture when I get it developed.

I remember seeing the first Superman and Star Trek movies in the big auditorium in great 70mm, and barely seeing Apollo 13 in very dim Cinemascope. They showed Beverly Hills Cop in very narrow full frame 35mm because they had previously shown a revival of Pinocchio and had neglected to change back to the proper aspect ratio.
