Oh, this is so so sad. I just found out about the demolition of the Harwan.
We moved out of NJ last year, back to Philly…but while we lived in NJ I was active in helping keep the Broadway in Pitman open, and was concerned about the Harwan, too.
This is so depressing. Thank G-d someone was able to take some pics of the theater before demolition; I was so involved in moving I never got the chance.
Look what I found in recent news for the theater. I always felt Munyon was an *ss, now I know it. My husband used to complain that all he did was whine that he couldn’t keep the place going:
I lived in Washington Twp NJ from 2002 to June of this year (2006), at which time my family and I moved back home to Philadelphia.
While we lived in NJ, I was involved in helping the Broadway Theater, and donated a considerable amt of money to the fund they had to help save the theater.
When I said the Orleans was “packed” for CARS during an afternoon weekday showing, I meant it had lots of people…in other words, we weren’t the only ones in there!
We recently moved to the part of NE Philly right near the Orleans…in fact we can walk to the theater in about 5 mins from our new house!
I saw CARS at the Orleans a week ago with my 7 yr old, and the place was packed…and this was a Tuesday afternoon matinee! I like the place…it looks dated from the outside but its fine inside!
I really like the fact that we can walk to a neighborhood theater..this area really reminds me of my childhood in so many ways. There is also a really old theater called the HIWAY in nearby Jenkintown.

Does anyone know where that money wound up?
