Went to see Star Trek Into Darkness at Opry Mills last week. Indeed it is digital “IMAX.” Complete with the Regal cinema video advertisements before showtime and then 15-20 minutes of ads and trailers before the movie. The presentation was fine and all, but it seems kinda pointless with having the screen that size and only filling up a small portion of it when the IMAX scenes started. So it’s confirmed that they don’t even have the 15/70 film system at all there now? I can understand them also having a digital system for times when the studio will only send out a digital version, but will they no longer be showing any real 70mm IMAX? After having spent all that money to rebuild it and install it and putting the giant screen in, they aren’t going to use it?
