My mother told me about how every kid from her block would go here on Saturday afternoons in the 60’s. A little old lady would take the tickets and run the projector, and a little old man played the organ during the flash Gordan cartoons. Her eyes still light up when she talks about it. Now its a gold gym and very little remains of a theater.
I remember going here in 7th grade with friends to see the flintstones movie. This was when it was still a big single screen and I remember the theaters details keep my attion more than the movie. I also remember that if you smacked the seat backs, dust clouds would appear.
The 10 plex currently on the site is open, but it and the land that the former drive in are on is up for auction. The drive in has sat untouched for awhile. A former management group started work on it but left soon after. The field is very over grown, the old projection/ concession stand is in ruins, and I have no clue were the screen used to be. The gates are just brick and steel. I will try to get some pictures soon.
The management that was doing work on the drive-in and theater left the business. The theater closed for a short while, and fortunately another group signed a 10 year lease last year. The family that owns the theater is going to auction off the land some time this month!! I hope that this theater will stay with new ownership. The drive in would nice if brought back.
I loved this theater as a kid I remember seeing snow white here when was about 4 or 5 in 1984 or 85.
