The walls at this theater are very thin so the sound bleed-over from one auditorium to another is pretty bad. I saw Spotlight and it was right near the lie-MAX theater showing Star Wars, so the dialogue heavy drama was occasionally drowned out by the music/action from the neighboring theater. I do wonder if they will be upgrading soon as despite being only 5 years old their seats are definitely showing some wear and tear.

For the prices, it’s fine. I’ve seen several movies here in the past couple of months and only a couple of them were projected properly. They have digital projection, but every movie I’ve seen in Scope was being projected with the sides cropped. Also, the 3D projection was atrocious. Again, it’s cheap and I guess that’s enough for some people. I’m guessing they do very well with the family films as animated movies play a long time here.

Theaters 1 & 4 seat about 100, and 2 & 3 seat about 120.

I believe most of the renovations to the theater are now complete. They lost about 2/3 of the seating with the switch to the king-size recliners. The inside area in front of the theater is now the last remaining part of the old mall. The exterior also looks different as the marquee was taken down. All the changes are very nice, but Regal still insists on 20 minutes of previews.

The actual mall – now called West Manchester Town Center – has gotten some new restaurants, new stores and more coming this year.

Regal operated the theater until the fall of 2001. Another company opened it in (I think?) the summer of 2003 and then it was closed again maybe late 2008. Not entirely sure of those dates. When it reopened in 2003 they tried showing indies but most of the stuff was way too small for York. I remember seeing Blue Car, Swimming Pool, Pieces of April and Motorcycle Diaries among others. I was always the only person in the theater. Strangely, Girl With a Pearl Earring was full and a guy behind us kept burping during the film.

The theaters, as mentioned in the other comments, were very small. Very small screens and not too good sound system. The seats were on a slope, but the projection rooms were so low anytime someone got up to go to the restroom/concessions you could see their shadow on the screen.

I knew people who worked there and I believe they told me 2 of the auditoriums were about 150 seats, 2 were around 200, and the other one was 250. When Regal opened a theater at West Manchester in 1998, this theater’s days were numbered. I went on my first date here – Happy Gilmore. I remember seeing Clueless, Congo, Scream 2, There’s Something About Mary here among others. Good times!

The mall is being completely made over into an “open air mall” sometime in the near future. The theater will stay and will be having some renovations. (The largest theater actually got new seats at the start of last summer.) Hopefully, it’s a real IMAX they put in and not another fake one.

Frank Theaters stealing a good portion of their business has led to at least one good thing: they get a lot more indie stuff. It was the only place in York to see The Artist, Bully, Moonrise Kingdom, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Beasts of the Southern Wild, To Rome With Love, The Sessions, Quartet and various others. They also seem to be getting more Christian-aimed movies. Not really my thing, but I’m sure they do okay in the area.
