Both the Garby and The Orpheum are for sale. The garby is currently split down the middle to accomodate two screens. This was done in the early eighties. Most of the original stremeline moderne lines run along the outside walls on each side. I spoke recently with a gentleman named Phil Wein who told me he used to do a magic act on the Garby stage many years ago.
I recall the Drake having some Art Deco elements but it had a rounded precinium like French Renaissance. The mystery lies in the lack of information I can find on the Drake. Everyone in Oil City has been obsessed with the Latonia since it closed in the early seventies even though the Drake remained open. It was the only indoor movie theatre in the area. If you lived in Oil City/Franklin/Titusville in 1977, chances are you saw Star Wars there.
I lived in Richmond for a few years in the late ‘90’s. One of my favorite places to hang out was Cary Town a fun evening would include visits to Plan 9 Records, World of Mirth, the tobacconist, dinner at Mary Anglea’s and a movie at The Byrd. The midnight shows were the best. I remember going to see “Pink Flamningos” there (I think I still have the stub somewhere).

I know many great live acts have graced the stage of The Warner in recent years. George Clinton and P-Funk, Jethro Tull, Bo Diddly and this summer Dweezil Zappa will be bringing his Zappa Plays Zappa tribute to The Warner. I was there for a First Night Erie show many years ago and my cousin was married in the lobby there. it is indeed a grand palace.
The Orpheum in Clarion is up for sale or lease again. Last I heard from a local realator the current owner wants $150,000 for it unfortunately the floor was leveled a couple years ago to acomodate a Discovery Zone type play place. It was then occupied by Sparky’s Pizza Buffet which folded in January of 2007. It could acomodate live acts but the stage is non existent and the only sign that was a theatre originally is the marquis out front.
