Buster Maxwell lamenting the demolition of the Roland Theater

Circa 1973, photography by the late, great Rich Martin. Yes, we snuck into the theater without permission….but art is worth it. All images ©1973 Buster Maxwell

If demolition was underway when they were taken, the photos must date from 1976. I see there is an ornate letter “R” on the decorative panel adjacent to the proscenium.

Yes, Joe, correct on both counts! Thank you so much….I will correct the date.

PLEASE!!!! If anyone has a clearer picture of what that ornate letter “R” looks like, specifically the trumpets and designs protruding from the circle, please let me know!! I actually have that plaster “R” hanging on a wall in my house and I would love to rebuild the surrounding designs around it. My uncle got it from the theatre before it was demolished and I very vaguely remember the rest of it, but by the time I got it all that was left was the circle with the letter inside.
