the loews preimiere was a close second to the pitkin as brownsvilles landmark theatre
it played all the great mgm movies
i was there in april of 1964=to see ‘imitation of life’ and ‘seven d
ays in may'
it already saw its best days
the goldfish fountain in the lobby was drained
and had a real seedy look
i dont believe loews owned it by than
the priemiere in 1964 reflected what the rest of brownsville was becoming-a disaster

the linden in the late 50s was a third run double feature movie
i remember seeing –‘on the waterfront’ at the linden around 1958
it was the type of plain movie that always give you your moneys worth
i would never call a movie a ‘dump’ or the ‘itch'
does anyone remember the ;peoples cinema; on saratoga and livinoa
in brownsville in the 30s to early 50s?>

the avalon used to run only mgm, paramount and columbia films
i rememberthe lines around the avalon to see the jolson story in november of 1946
also the ushers who would say ‘immediate seating only'
i was crazy about 'gilda’ also shown in 1946
