Andy, The old Ritz Theater at 22 N. Ft. Harrison Ave. is now The Sage, which a Restaurant/Event Venue. You need to change the Google Map picture to a bit further south and across the Street. When it was built it was very nice inside and it showed first run Movies. Alas, it was an XXXRated Theater in the 80’s. It is really nice inside now. But, alas it is no longer a Movie Theater.
This was my favorite Movie Theater in the whole World!!! It was like a Palace! It was soooo beautiful!!! It had 24K Gold Plated Faucets and Italian Marble floors in the Ladies Room! I was there the day that the wrecking ball struck. I cried so hard and cried all the way home.My Dad was so cool! He got me some souvenirs and the Book “The Fabulous And Foolish Fox”. That book is worth a fortune now.
Here’s an Article about The Gate Theater from the Website “Our Sausalito”:
The Gate Theatre — Located at 668 Bridgeway in Sausalito in a spot now occupied by an art gallery, this movie theatre was built as the Princess Theatre (being near Princess St.) and was renamed the Gate in honor of the new Golden Gate Bridge in the 1930’s. By 1953 it had come under the control of the Blumenfeld family, who over time acquired most of the movie houses in the County. As television sets became standard features of American homes movie attendance dropped and The Gate was closed in favor of the nearby Marin Theatre (now Cinearts at Marin, a modernized three-screen facility), also then owned by the Blumenfelds. Some stage productions were still held at The Gate through the mid-60’s, and the San Francisco Mime Troupe called the place home in 1965. The Grateful Dead played there at least once in the mid-1960’s.
I went to School in England for 2 years. I had friends in Royal Tunbridge Wells and we would go to the Classic Theater together after grabbing some Lunch at The Pantilles nearby. The Classic was always packed lots of people having a good time. That is a bummer that it’s fate was the wrecking ball.
I went to School in England for 2 years. Our School was near East Grinstead. We went to the Cannon Movie Theater a lot. It was great! I loved the circular design. It had a cute Cafe where you could grab a bite before the Movie and my Parents also loved it because you could smoke while you were watching the Movie.Sad to hear it’s gone.

I grew up in Marin County. The Lark was a great little Movie Theater! I remember seeing the incredible “The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau” there and “The Bridge On the River Kwai” there as well. We whistled that tune from “The Bridge On The River Kwai” all the way home to Mill Valley.
The Marin Theater was the first Movie in Marin County to play Woodstock. I went to go and see Woodstock on the night it opened at the Marin. It was really cool because all of my friends were there too. We had a great time that night.
We used to go there when I was kid. You could see the Screen as you rounded Redwood Highway. It was always really cool to be driving by at night and to catch a few glimpses of the Movie that was playing.
I adjusted the Google Street View of what the then Gate Theater is now for you. I went to The Gate Theater when I was kid. We lived in Sausalito. It was really cool inside. It was a small Movie Theater, but it had a lot of cute features.
