A good friend of mine worked there for quite some time and we got to see several movies there because of that. I agree, the mall hasnt been the same since the theater closed. Heck, the wing that used to head down towards what is now cub foods as well as the wing that went towards the arcade (gold mine then became Tilt) is now gone too. Its just not the same mall is was back then.
This one must have only been a few miles from the Bloomington Drive-in or as I remembered it. The Southtown drive-in (I think thats what it was called there where the Southtown strip mall now sits).
I remember this theater and I was born in 72 so by the time the early 80’s came around when I was old enough to remember stuff and pay attention. This theater was still running, although at the time I remember it, it was called Southtown. The same namesake they used from the strip mall that sits in the same spot now, which is right across 494 from the Best Buy HQ.
I also had the privlege of seeing The Empire Strikes Back there. It was the only time I ever saw a movie there.
