Is this the one across the street from Target? I was at this theatre back before Christmas. Use to go see previews there. I had no clue they were closed as of this year. But as time went on, I did notice a decline in movie goers there.
Didn’t this Theatre go through many name changes? I think it was called Cinderella or the King back in the 70s/80s. One memory I have as a kid of the drive-in was one of the screens has a huge crown on the back. After it was closed that same screen stayed up for years.
I thought I was the only one who remembered the Lido. Right across from Samuell Park. They use to show porn movies, in the mid 80s early 90’s. I was still a preteen, but every kid seemed to know what type of theatre this was. Back in the day, you would drive through there and it looked like an ordinary neighborhood. At night, that whole block looked kind of seedy with neon lights and the other strip clubs, and liquor stores that use to be up Samuell blvd.. Those were the days.
I remember the Astro as kid growing up in the mid to late 80’s. Actually saw Batman there. A few years ago, after the fire happened, I drove by there only to see 3 huge screens in a deserted field. It looked like something out of a old western movie. I even remember the talk, back at the time about rebuilding. Since I’ve been doing a little research, it also seems to me that the number one reason drive-ins don’t rebuild or reopen is due to the property being too valuable. One would think that with all the state of the art movie theaters that are being built today, creating a drive-in would be no problem. But I guess it’s a matter of economics.
I remember the Texas Theater like it was yesterday. Back in the 80’s when they use to show movies like Vamp and Desperately Seeking Susan. I must have been 6 or 7 years old. But now as adult, and as someone who has lived in Dallas all my life, I’m not surprised that the Texas Theater renovation has yet to actually come full circle. Every blue moon the Texas Theaer is mentioned in the news. One would have thought that the building would be up and running by now. I hate to be critical but, Dallas has a bad rep for letting historical sites go down.
Does anyone know why this drive-in was closed a second time right after it reopened in the late 80’s?

I use to live in the area where the Casa Linda use to be. Too bad, it’s just another piece of Dallas history that has slipped through the cracks.
