In August of 1958, ATG buys the Alhambra next to campus and rename it the World. In a local article they say they are operating the Drexel and all three will have unique programming: The Bexley will show foreign language films, The World will show films in English, whether from the US or foreign dubbed films, and The Drexel will show Hollywood revivals. I don’t think they operate it for too long.
Hi - I’m writing a book on the history of the Art Theater Guild and Louis Sher and would like to get any first person stories and photos from former workers and audience members. ATG owned the Kiva, Portofino, Valley Art and Paris in the Phoenix area, and The Park, The Movie and the Loft (where I worked) in Tucson. Please reach out! Email - mike_plante at sundance.org
