When this grand lady was at the pinnacle of its life as a single screen operation (what it DESIGNED to be), that black screen masking would never, EVER be incorrectly set so as not to properly meet the edges of the projected image. This kind of sloppy presentation is indicative of what happens when multiplexes became utilitarian, assembly-line operations with no passion for detail or the values that use to make going to the movies a unique and magical event. Century had one-sheet posters that I remember seeing specifically in the lobby of the Fresh Meadows. It read: “Movies, MOVIES, M O V I E S! Everyone should have one to look forward to.” Going to see a movie in this particular theatre back then was always a great treat for a young kid and it inspired that kid to have a life-long career in the motion picture business.
