The Plitt Knollwood theater was not kept up very well when I went there in the mid 1990’s. I recall seeing stained ceiling tiles and faded red drapes that adorned the side walls. It was very 1970’s esque. The only theater I can think of that still had a rotary phone. As I recall there were two theaters on the main level and then two within the lower level… The mall itself has struggled to survive for the past 20 years. Back in the 1980’s people actually shopped at Knollwood, but since that time the mall has been at about half occupancy. I do miss the theaters. I think they are probably still hiding behind the walled off area within the center of the mall. Hopefully a theater will return to the mall at some point.
I loved this theater when I was younger. I saw “Home Alone” here in 1990 as a child, as well as many other films. The theater is now one of the last remaining businesses within the strip center in which it sits. It is very sad to see this decline. I will have to go back at some point and see a film there again and relive my youth.
