I am surprised they are closing so soon when Mary Poppins is attracting nearly full houses having just attended a matinee recently.Mary Poppins is doing huge business Uk wide and Stan and Ollie IMO will not fall into that catagory.
I agree There seems to be no one anywhere who has any photos of the interior of this huge cinema from its heyday in the 60s! loved to have seen a picture of its 70mm screen etc
Howard that would be fascinating to step back and compare the original Cinerama sized screens to the more modern screens in the West End. From memory both The Astoria Cinerama in Charing Cross, Metropole in Victoria and The Coliseum in St Martin’s Lane had huge screens in the sixties.Does anyone have any stats or photos?
The Restoration was made in the 60s and was put on in its new 70mm presentation at the Empire Leicester Square and broke box office records at that cinema in 1968 after Dr Zhivago finished its successful 70mm run.
Make it a showcase single screen again as there are no other single screen left now. Use it for premieres like the old days. Realistically and seriously I think Empire will sell this off one way or the other

a staff member at the OLS advised the cinema will bet closing after the run of The Last Jedi. So assume the renovation will commence thereafter
