The screen count is: #1- 142, #2- 141, #3- 202, #4- 187. The theater was remodeled in 1997 by then owner Foothill Entertainment. Rio Entertainment has had it since 1998. The equipment is a bit old and needs to be updated, but the prices are very reasonable. The workers there are very nice.
I too think that it is a great idea. If there is anything that i can do to help, from signing a petition or doing some type of physical labor, i would gladly help. I hope that everything works out. I live in near by Bay City and i have always wanted to see the inside of this great looking theater.
i recently found this gem and was very impressed. i did not get a chance to go inside, but looking through the windows i fell in love. whoever restored and reopened it did a great job. the location is great in my opinion, in the old downtown, next to the train museum. too bad that these do not have movies playing anymore.
i went by the lynn theater the other day and it is now open and running. it is now a 2 screen and looks to be in terrific condition. the oustside is in terrific shape, and the inside looks absolutely amazing. i could only look in the windows, they were not open yet, but it was nice. the theater looks as though it has been updated and modernized, but it looks absolutely awesome. i wanted to watch a movie there but unfortunately did not have the time. it is located on confederate square, in a beautiful old downtown. i spent an hour looking at the theater and the square. i felt as though i were looking into the past. they have a website www.lynntheatre.com i think. if you are ever in the area i suggest visiting this theater i know that i will.
i was wondering when someone was going to add the Ganado Theatre to this website. i absolutely love the Ganado Theatre. the sound system in the theatre is the best that i have ever heard, better than even the big chain theatres. the owner, Alvin Svoboda is a very nice person and obviously cares about his classic theatre. i have only been able to visit the theatre once, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. Alvin was kind enough to show me around the theatre. it still has the seperate entrance(though not in use) and the balcony is still in use. he took out some of the seating to make more leg room and comfort. although the screen has been moved forward, the stage is still present. when i visited his theatre he had up vintage pictures of then local theatres, one of which was in bay city but is now a church. Alvin seems to have made a decision to keep the theatre as “vintage” as possible with the exception of his booth equipment. i love this theatre and i look forward to visiting it again.
cool, i may try to give you a call sometime. i am amazed that i found a site where there are people that love the old historic theatres the way that i do. hopefully some day i can visit some of our texas theatres. so many have been lost or turned into churches. today’s large theatres have no personality. i love to see the older theatres, it is like going back in time. thanks again for the information.
that’s cool. any idea on when it might open. i would love to see it, even closed if you have the address. are you involved in the theatre? what kind of programing do you think will be shown? i look forward to the reopening of the theatre and i hope that i will be able to see it.
i did not know that there was an old theatre in Hallettesville. i will definately try to go there and check out the theatre. i have been to the Plaza in Wharton a couple of times, but i have never been able to see the inside. i have read about it on the net and it seems to have some history to it. i want to try to catch a play that they have there, but working at a movie theatre myself, i do not have much time to catch one. i also did not know that there was a theatre in Victoria, i was there last week i would have checked it out. do you have any addresses or possibly any pictures? thanks again for the information, i appreciate it greatly.
thanks for the information. too bad about the cost to remove the asbestos. i have met Alvin Svoboda once. i was in awe of his theatre and he was nice enough to show me around. he showed me everything in the theatre and clued me in to some of the history of the theatre. he even showed me the old “rooms” behind the screen that used to house the fans before air conditioning (i think). i only live about 45 minutes from Ganado, but i do not have a chance to get there much. his sound system is one of the best in the country(nice for such a historic theatre). i can’t wait to go back.
I drive by the theater from time to time and i love it? Are there any plans to reopen it? Are there any pictures of it? I have always wanted to see it. If anyone has thought of reopening it, i will run it for you. Is it going to be up for sale any time? It would be great to run it in tandem with the Ganado Theatre, which is also awesome.

thanks for the picture, i appreciated it. i wish that i could find one of the inside.
am i correct to assume that the Halls that you are talking about now run rio entertainment, inc. ?
was this theater owned by rio entertainment, inc.?
