This is how the Ashland and many other St. Louis theaters began - as the Ashland Tent Picture Show. Five seasons of successful operation plus a City trying to get all tent shows closed due correctly to their incredibly unsafe nature due to high incidence of nitrate film projection fires, the operators, D.T. Williams & Wife Co., replaced the venue with the “new” hardtop Ashland Theatre also shown in photos.
