I used to work at this theater back when it was a GCC. One of its biggest drawbacks, I feel, was that people probably had a hard time locating it, as it was tucked away behind a Sport Chalet.
I like what AMC did with the place, except that the front row seats are too close to the screen. AMC seemed to course-correct with later shoebox-to-recliner seat conversions; in theaters such as the ones in Burbank and Santa Monica, even the front seats are comfortable.
This theater is commonly seen in movies and TV; besides “Don Jon”, it is featured in “Captain Marvel”, “Searching” and “American Crime Story: The Murder of Gianni Versace”.
When Regal (which owns Edwards) opened the stadium 16 a couple of miles away, it no longer had much use for this older theater. It was taken over by Tristone Cinemas, which operated it as a second-run discount theater. In 2017 (around the time of MoviePass), Tristone started running first-run films, but at a lower price than nearby competitors.
Oddly, certain movies stay at this theater months after they hit DVD. It showed MAD MAX: FURY ROAD for about a year, and it currently has GHOSTBUSTERS: ANSWER THE CALL and SECRET LIFE OF PETS. At first-run prices!
With the building of the Westfield Village between the Promenade and Westfield Topanga malls in 2015, the Promenade mall has fallen into disrepair. Most spaces in the mall are now vacant, with the exception of the movie theater and a few restaurants. As of this writing Westfield is planning to demolish the Promenade and relocate the theater to a former Sears space in the Topanga mall.
So funny that Santa Clarita now has a Cinema Drive where no cinema exists. :)
The theater closed permanently in July 2022.

This theater could be seen in the 1992 “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” movie.
The theater was remodeled recently and now has reserved seating and recliners.
