Apparently there was a noteworthy pipe organ installed at the theater, a Wicks Organ Co. Opus 555 (1925) model. The link above says it was built in 1925 for the Coolidge Theatre, East Watertown, Massachusetts. Moved at unknown time to St. Michael the Archangel R.C. Church, Lynn, Massachusetts. Closed closed ca. 2007. Organ for sale in 2017. (Steven E. Lawson. October 20, 2017).
There are 2 possible storms that could have caused this damage:
1954 August – Hurricane Carol – Category 3- wind gusts of category four strength in southeast Rhode Island and south coastal Massachusetts in the Buzzards Bay area west of Cape Cod. 60 killed. Extreme damage in coastal south Rhode Island and south coastal Massachusetts. Buzzards Bay damage rivaled 1938 storm.
1954 September – Hurricane Edna – second Category 3 hurricane in two weeks in New England made two landfalls, eye over Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod then again on coast of Maine where very severe losses occurred. Winds recorded at the hourly reading at 90 mph New Bedford Airport, New Bedford, Ma; 100 mph at Taunton, Ma. 112 mph at Milton Ma, and 125 mph at Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard Island.
If memory serves, it was hurricane Carol in August of 54.
I grew up on Templeton Pkwy as well in the mid 50’s – 70’s, and I think the theater was torn down by 1970-71 at the latest. A Jack in the Box replaced the theater and all the small stores along the street. I have a wonderful photo of the marquee taken by my uncle, Harry G. Jones. Judging by the films advertised, it is from 1945. I also have many vivid memories of Saturday afternoons there, and I distinctly recall seeing the Beatle’s A Hard Day’s Night there in 1964 at the cost of $1.
The Coolidge vertical marquee is visible on the right in this picture. Kimball Rd ran along the back of the theater and Templeton Pkwy in the front.
Hi Jimmy,
Not sure about the date on this one. Maybe early 40’s?

The movie poster says Gypsy Colt, which was released in 1954.
You are very welcome, Jimmy1953
I just tried to upload the photo here and it seems the feature is not available at present. When it is, I will post it.
